Worship Services
Council met this past Sunday (5/31) to discuss the
possibility of worship in the sanctuary. Based on what is
possible under current recommendations and best
practices, council decided it is best to move our target
date to begin an in-sanctuary worship option to July 12,
subject to change based on recommendations and
conditions. In the meantime, we will continue with our
drive-in services each week and celebrate Holy
Communion on the last Sunday of the month. Beginning
June 14, we are changing the time of our drive-in service
to 9:00 to avoid the heat. We have been working hard to
have a plan in place for when we offer an option in the
sanctuary, and will continue to keep it updated and
aligned with recommendations from the CDC and DHEC.
Council meets again on June 28.
Brenda Williams, Public Relations Director
at Newberry County Memorial Hospital,
graciously accepted the generous donation
of various snacks provided by the ladies of
Summer for the 2nd shift healthcare
workers. Thank you to everyone who
donate!
Circles will not meet in June or July.
Congratulations to our Graduates!
Jordyn Clark is graduating from Newberry High School and will be attending
Clemson University majoring in Nursing.
Matthew Boland is an outstanding young man and scholar. He achieved tremendous honors while attending Mid Carolina High School. Matthew is graduating with an Advanced Diploma Certificate. He was also one of the few students chosen for the Palmetto Fellows Scholarship. He will be furthering his education at Clemson University where he is undecided on his major.
To honor our commitment to providing the healthiest and safest environment possible for our campers, coun-selors, staff, and guests, and after prayerful and informed consideration, our executive team and the NovusWay Board of Trustees has made the difficult decision to suspend all scheduled camp programming for summer 2020 at Lutheridge, Lutherock, Luther Springs and Lutheranch. With campers, parents, counselors, and congregations, we share the disappointment and loss this painful news brings.
The recommended guidelines on how to conduct camp in this time of pandemic, published by the American Camp Association (ACA) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC), present constraints that greatly limit the positive impact and experience of summer camp. Even with our skilled program leadership and summer counselors, the cloud of this pandemic creates significant limitations to building the kind of life-giving commu-nity we have grown to love and expect at camp. While we can’t be physically together in this time, we are coming together in spirit for a massive virtual cele-
bration! The unified efforts of our Development Team, Board Members, former Board Members, LSC Cham-
pions, Pastors, congregations, donors, employees, and beyond have helped to make the Love One Another
campaign a huge success! That success is not just being measured by the dollars raised, but by the lives
each of you have impacted. As a result of your generosity, the Love One Another campaign surpassed its
$1.2 million goal to raise a total of $1,247,512.64 in gifts and pledges to date!
By the numbers
Board/Former Board – $185,816.97
Congregations – $470,052.44
General Appeal – $175,034.22
Grants – $97,000
Major Donors – $213,139.31
Employee Giving – $106,469.70
Monies raised have already been put to good use. LSC was able to establish the Transitional Living for
Young Adults program and has worked with 29 individuals so far. Renovations were completed on the Wel-
come House (the refugee temporary housing in Columbia), and new technology is being utilized by foster
care and refugee case workers.
LSC cannot adequately express our thanksgiving to each of you who made the Love One Another vision a reality. We do hope that you are as excited as we are, and will virtually celebrate with us until we can come together again! Help us celebrate by spreading this good news – thank you!
