What is an essay?An essay is a group of paragraphs about one subject.

What are the steps of writing an essay?

1-narrow the topic.

2-write the thesis statement.

3-generate ideas for the body.

4-organize ideas in an outline, draft, and revise.

How to Narrow the Topic?O First start out with a general topic. Take the topic and

break it down into categories by asking the five W’s and H.

O Now consider the following question areas to generate specific ideas.

O Finally, refine your ideas.

What is the Thesis Statement?

O a short statement, usually one sentence, that summarizes the mainpoint or claim of an essay.

Note  the thesis statement is developed,supported, and explained in the text by means of examples and evidence.

How to Generate Ideas for the Body?

1) brainstorm or freewrite. 2) jotting down any ideas that develop the

thesis statement.3)  drop any ideas that do not support the

thesis statement.4) group ideas in body paragraphs.

How to Organize Ideas into an Outline?

2 to 4 main ideas to support the thesis statement 2 to 4 topic sentences stating these ideas

A plan for each paragraph in the body.

A logical order in which to present paragrapS.

How to Order Paragraphs?

O Time order .

O Space order.

O Order of importace.

How to Write and Revise Essays?

O Note:Write on every other line to leave room for later corrections

How to Revise and Proofread the essay?

ORead it to yourself.

O Uderlie trouble spots.

OWrite i margins.

How Proofread and Write the Final Draft?

Check : verb errors comma splices. Spelling.
