Martha Plimpton, Jay R. Ferguson, Noah Galvin, Matt Shively, and Bebe Wood of The Real O’Neals
Author and activist Dan Savage is perhaps best known for spearheading the “It Gets Better Project,” an organization dedicated to spreading the belief that life will improve for LGBT youth struggling with issues of identity and acceptance, while actively working to make that promise a reality. The Real O’Neals, a comedy coming to ABC on March 2, 2016, is based loosely on Savage’s upbringing.
When Kenny O’Neal (Noah Galvin) comes out to his family, it starts a chain reaction that reveals a surprising side of the O’Neal clan. Kenny hands the ‘keeping-it-real’ baton off to his brother Jimmy (Matt Shively) who reveals he’s struggling with an eating disorder, and younger sister Shannon (Bebe Wood) divulges she has been stealing from the church. To top it all off, their parents Eileen and Pat O’Neal, (Martha
Plimpton and Jay Ferguson) announce to their children that they are getting a divorce, shattering the last facade of Eileen’s desire to have the perfect Catholic family.
But this new chapter for the O’Neal family is far better -- and funnier!
The Real O’Neals just recently finished filming on stages 23 & 11 right here on the CBS Radford lot.
