A Time to Give Thanks to YOU!
Safe Harbor Easton is in a position where it wants to start out by thanking the local community of Easton. Back in October 2011, when
we brought Safe Harbor back to the community of Easton ,I never could have imagined that the community would be as giving to us as they
have been. It was only three years ago that my budget was reduced to $270,000 with all costs cut having been staff and programming. Today
that budget is over $535,000, with the majority of that money employing new staff and the rest going to new programs and initiatives
at Safe Harbor. During the last year we celebrated many milestones: Safe Harbor was named Non-profit of the Year by the Chamber of
Commerce for 2014. We celebrated our two year anniversary of Safe Harbor Employment Services this month and we recently celebrated
our 200th job placement. Safe Harbor appeared on cable tv show “Business Matters” twice debating the legalization of marijuana and
“why we should raise minimum wage”? I appeared on “Taking the Initiative” to promote Safe Harbor’s success over the last few years. Channel 69 news covered more than 12 news stories throughout the
year with Safe Harbor.
A special thank you to Will Lewis and Albert for following us where to cover a story on homelessness. Safe Harbor appeared in over twenty two newspaper articles throughout the year. This type of exposure is
priceless.
Safe Harbor successfully housed 242 residents throughout the year and we found employment for 108 residents. We also housed 107 clients into
permanent ,supportive housing. Safe Harbor added 4 female beds to our shelter by eliminating a seating room. This increased female beds
from 10 to 14. Safe Harbor volunteers recorded for the year were 2,890 volunteer hours by 1,870 volunteers.

Safe Harbor Easton and
The 6th Street Park Project
This past summer, Wells Fargo, Safe Harbor
Easton, West Ward Neighborhood Partnership,
and community residents teamed up to
revitalize a portion of 6th and Northampton
street. Together we planted trees and flowers,
installed lights and park benches, and created
the 6th St park. Today the park serves as an
area where residents, community members,
and even the Safe Harbor staff can go to find a
moment to relax. “I can’t tell you how
therapeutic it is to meet with clients for
case-management in a park setting.” Safe
Harbor and its residents have been meeting
with Lynne Holden to maintain upkeep of the
park since early summer. Residents mow the
grass, weed whack, trim hedges, and generally
maintain the park. Vandals came calling a few
times this summer and ruined what was in
place. However, the resilient Safe Harbor
residents were determined to keep what they
had built going, and went there the very next
day to show that Safe Harbor is here and we’re
not going anywhere! We were there for the
flowers, for the falling leaves, for the snow, and
we will be there next spring when the new
flowers are blooming. A special thank you to
the city of Easton , Wells Fargo and CACLV for
allowing the revitalization of the park. We
would like to invite the community to enjoy
the park.
Thank you to the Community... (continued from page 1)
In the last year over 200 clients have participated in the recovery center
where we run 10 meetings a week and have sober activities take place. The
Easton Recovery Center is also designed as a work program on site at Safe
Harbor (all residents work 4 hours a week in the center). One of the most
successful partnerships this year has been the Safe Harbor Medical Clinic.
This program has seen over 140 unduplicated clients year to date. Safe
Harbor recently added Friday afternoon to the clinic schedule of
Tuesday’s from 6-10 p.m. Speaking of the clinic we also started a “Street
Outreach Program” where we take the medical doctors out into the
streets to treat homeless clients in need of care. We go out the 2nd and
4th Friday’s from 9-12 at Safe Harbor Easton if anyone is interested.
The community of Easton pulled together and helped Safe Harbor to raise
over $167,000 in contributions this year. I can’t begin to thank you
enough for supporting a place that changes so many lives. By: Tyler Rogers

Safe Harbor would like to welcome Sara Woodruff from
Lafayette College who is interning at the shelter this semester
Sarah Woodruff is a senior Biology student at Lafayette
College. On campus, Sarah directs a community outreach
program called Yard Projects, which works with the
Lafayette Landis Center and the Center for Community
Engagement to connect 280 volunteers with upwards of
30 community organizations. This semester, Sarah began
interning at Safe Harbor, where she interviews residents,
records life stories, drafts and revises publications, and
helps to maintain our Facebook page. We are so thankful
to have Sarah with us this school year.
Last year Suddenly Samantha’s Salon
located at 200 Northampton Street,
Easton did an amazing silent auction
(Deck the Walls) to benefit Safe Harbor
Easton. Stephen Flowers, owner of
Suddenly Samantha purchased 20 plain
skateboard decks, gave them to local
artists to paint/design and then held a
silent auction giving them to the highest bidder. The proceeds were then
donated to Safe Harbor Easton. Stephen has been a huge supporter of Safe
Harbor Easton for many years. He gives free haircuts to our residents on
his day off and has been more than willing to support all of our other
fundraisers. This year, on December 20th he will again hold the “Deck the
Walls” Silent Auction to support Safe Harbor Easton and the Easton
Ambassadors. Please come out for this great event on December 20 from
7-10 p.m. and support a wonderful cause.

Thank you
Giant Food
Stores for
your
Support!
Giant Food
Store, located on 25th Street, has been a huge support-
er of Safe Harbor Easton for years. Every Tuesday and
Friday, our case manager, Jennifer Collins, picks up 2-3
carts full of baked goods and bread. Giant also donates
approximately $7,500 per year to us through gift cards
by collecting dollar donations
Happy Holidays from all of us at
Safe Harbor Easton
Partnering with the community is a big piece of Safe Harbor residents daily
schedule. Every other Tuesday 4-5 residents along with Case manager, Jeffrey Poch
meet with staff of Project of Easton to unload a full size box truck of supplies. The
supplies include everything from milk, canned goods, paper products and house-
hold needs. The supplies are then handed out to the greater Easton community. It
may seem like it is only unloading a truck. However, it gives the residents a sense
of accomplishment and allows them to communicate and socialize with
community members. Communication that could lead to additional services for
themselves or even employment. It allows the residents an opportunity to feel a
sense of purpose and can give them a skill to transfer to a resume.
The Couponing Corner
Become successful at couponing.
The best place to find coupons is the
Newspaper. You can also print coupons
online from coupons.com, Facebook
pages and manufacturer websites.
Weis and Giant “double” coupons
meaning they accept your coupon at twice
the face value up to $1.00 off. So, for
example, if a coupon is $0.50 off one item,
the store will honor that coupon at $1.00
off. Weis doubles 4 like coupons while
Giant only doubles 1 coupon for that
particular product.
Stores such as Target, Walgreens, Rite Aid
and Weis let you “stack” coupons meaning
you can use their store coupon and a
manufacture coupon on the same item.
Target also has a free app called
“cartwheel” where you can enjoy even
more savings. Happy Shopping!
at checkout twice a year during “Bags
for Hunger.” Safe Harbor would like to
thank Giant Food Stores once again
for their continued support and
generosity. Their contributions have
brought much-needed comfort to the
members of our community, and we
are very grateful for that! The 25th
Street and Forks Township stores
being the most supportive of us and
our residents.
The American Legion hosted a
Poker Run Fundraiser for Safe
Harbor on August 30,2014. The
event was a great success and raised
$2,972.20 with all proceeds going
towards the shelter. The poker run
consisted of 50 riders who rode 100 miles and stopped at 5 different American
Legions where they pulled a card from a deck of cards. At the end of the run
the rider with the best hand won the pool of money. The generosity of the
American Legion is greatly appreciated and will help to improve so many lives.
Street Outreach Team Safe Harbor Easton and Dr. Brett Feldman, Director Safe Harbor Free Clinic, formed a strategic partnership in August 2014 to conduct “Medical Street Outreach” we would be delivering the medical treatment to the sick and suffering that are out there living
on the streets.
Dr. Brett has been conducting street outreach throughout the Lehigh Valley for the last 2 years and he continues to see the problem of homelessness continue to rise.
“Everyone matters and everyone has a name, that is how we view the homeless or
those in need” said Mr. Rogers. By having the ability to bring the medical treatment to the clients in need, it eliminates the need to abuse the services of the emergency
room. This in return helps the entire community by saving tax dollars.
If you or someone you know is in need of medical treatment please take the time to come and see our team of doctors, we are open Tuesday night from 6-10 p.m. and
Friday’s from 11-3 p.m. We are available to the community and the only requirement is not having medical insurance.
Thanks again to the Lehigh Valley Health Network for making the free clinic a reality.

Point In Time Count
January 28, 2015
Each year in January I lead a team
of volunteers and local leaders of
non-profits and companies out into
the community of Easton and
Northampton County and we spend
a 24 hour period looking for the
homeless for a nationwide count
that takes place each year. The
hope of this reporting is to show the
federal government the need for
resources to create and fund current
services and to try and convince the
homeless to seek shelter or at a
minimum the resources our
day-program can provide. Local
groups supply tarps, clothing,
survival gear, tents, hats, gloves,
resources, etc. Roberta & Friends,
Project Keep Warm, local churches
and business, Lehigh Valley
Business Group all get involved in
helping to make the backpacks that
we deliver to the clients in need.
Volunteers are needed for the
January count. Call 610.258.5540
