Perhaps you watched the eclipse recently. Jf so~ you probably noticed the stars which twinkled so brightly in tho sky. Dowl:ler will present some of its ~ stars in three senior recitals, and a Spring Concert to be given in May.,

Star !---Ellen Weiss, doprano,-will present her recite 1 ?.Iay 3 at 8:15 in chapel. Her program in­cludes Debussy, Carpenter, Donizetti, a Schumann cycle, and other selec• tions.

Star II---Dorothy Brach, pianist,-will play selec­tions by Grif'fes., Brahms, Chopin, and Scarlatti; and Beethoven's Third Con-

• eerto on May 6 at 8 : 15 in chapel.

Star III---Actually this program will twinkle with many stars, for ilday 7 marks the date of the Spring Concert. A vocal ensemble, organ and

piano will combine for this performance.

Star IV---Joyce Raasch, soprano,-wn1 give the

i last recital on Hay 12 at . 8:15 in chapel. She will

sing four groups---German, Italian, French, and English.

Your mothers will also be able to do a bit of star gazing, for a pro­gram of vocal and piano selections will be pre­sented during Hothers' Vfeekend.

Though the play is def­initely Chinese in char­acter, there is a great resemblance between ita theme and the theme of Western dramas. As the author, Shi I. Hsiung htm­aelf said, "West and East differ actually only in appearance and outward thi~s. When you come to thin&s or the intellect, they always meet.

The romantic success story ot a young Chinese maiden of noble · birth who, aa subsequent events prove, loTed a humble gardener w}s ely,. and too well, is aure ,to please the spec­tators, for after 18 hard years, our heroine "turns the .tables." Her gardener becomes king and she has the opportunity to deal with her scoffing rela­tives,. Thus, good is re-ward~d, evil is punished and ,all are satisfied.

weather, all of which mark the beginning of a new air.

··we don't mean the atmos­phere, either; rather we're thinking about an air ot anticipation and excite­ment, plus perhaps a lit­tle nervousness on the part of certain members of MDC, as the.t eventful time ap­proaches. Yes, it's Hat Hunt, definitely the biggest, best, and most rest--less part of Downer life.

Up to now, freshmen have been in the dark as to just what to expect, and natur-ally it 'a pretty dark till July 4, but a few helpful hints won't hurt. First, we sincerely suggest that the participants learn to study, because Hat Hunt tun depends on good grades. That we know J

Secondly, take care of those coiffures. They real~ ly count (as Andy will tell you). What 1s more, watch those figures • Try ten deep-knee bends every night; they're marvelous. Don't forget that class spirit, either. Keep it up despite opposing forces.
