The American Flag

The thirteen – star, thirteen – stripe national flag of the USA was adopted on June 14, 1777. There was one star and one stripe for every state in the newcountry. Gradually, as new states were added to the Union, a new star was added to the national flag. There are now 50 stars on the American flag, one for each state. The 13 stripes represent the original 13 states.

The National AnthemThe national anthem of the USA is

“The Star-Spangled Banner”. The words are written by Francis Scott Key during the Anglo-American war of 1812-1814 and set on a music of an old song.

George Washington was the first President of the USA. He led the American army in many battles during the warfor American Independence.

The monument was built in honor of George Washington. It is 555 feet and provides a panoramic view of Washington, D.C.

The Declaration of Independence was written by Thomas Jefferson. He was the third President of the United States.The Jefferson Memorial was built in Washington in his honor. Inside the memorial there is a 19-foot statue of T. Jefferson standing on a 6-foot pedestal.

The Lincoln Memorial was built in honor of Abraham Lincoln. He became the 16-th President of the USA in1861. Lincoln wrote the Emancipation Proclamation which freed the blacks in the South from slavery. Inside the memorial there is a huge statue of the former president.

the city and district - the district of Columbia (D.C.). It is located on the East Coast. It was chosen by George Washington for a capital city on December 1, 1800.

The White HouseIt is the beautiful home of every President of the USA. This is the oldest public building in Washington, D.C.. It has the most famous address in the United States – 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.It consists of 132 rooms. It is opened for tours.

United States CapitolIt is the tallest building in Washington,

D.C., and the most famous building in the USA, because this is where laws are made. The Capitol is surrounded by a beautiful garden with many trees and flowers. The daily tours are available.

The Supreme CourtThe majestic building is the

Supreme Court.This is where the laws are interpreted by the highest judges in the USA.

The Library of Congress

It is located in Washington, D.C. too. It is the largest national library in the world. It takes 340 miles of shelves to hold all of the books.
