RSVP Colleen Cronk at ccronk@uj.ac.za by 17 May 2016 “The presentation will discuss the trends in higher education fi nancing in the context of poverty, inequality, and underdevelopment in Sub-Saharan Africa. It will examine trends in HE fi nancing in the context of the growth of the economy and of the budget, and in relation to other education sub-sectors and the social sector more generally. Amongst other topics that will be analysed are the relationship between HE fi nancing and inequality, the development of private fi nancing of HE, and the linkages between HE fi nancing, HE outputs and outcomes, and economic and social development.”Pundy Pillay is Professor of Economics and Public Finance, and Research Director, School of Governance, University of the Witwatersrand. Previous positions include being Senior Economist, RTI International; Head of the Policy Unit, Offi ce of the President; Director, Financial and Fiscal Commission, and Senior Lecturer, Economics, University of Cape Town. Other than South Africa, he has worked in Bangladesh, Egypt, Kenya, Iran, Lesotho, Namibia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Rwanda, Uganda and Zambia. His research interests are in public fi nance, the economics of education, inequality and poverty, and public policy.
