Rationale

• Almost every public school in NSW has been transitioned to authenticated Internet access and email

• Almost every teacher and student now has their own DET provided email account

• Many teachers are unaware of the basic features of email

• Many teachers are unaware of simple and effective ways to use email as a teaching and learning resource.

• Addresses Professional Knowledge domain of the Professional Teaching Standards

• Element 1.2.4: Apply current knowledge and skills in the use of ICT in the classroom to meet syllabus outcomes in:– Basic operational skills in using email– Pedagogical skills for classroom management

Workshop OutcomesBy the end of the workshop, participants will:• Have accessed and used My email• be familiar with a number of email features including:

– attaching documents– creating distribution lists– creating a signature– strategies for managing email– other email options.

• have engaged in an email activity that can be applied to the classroom.

• have explored the CLI and/or TaLe sites and identified and evaluated some resources that can be applied to their classroom.

• The email product provided is web-based and accessed through the DET Portal

• An individual email is limited to a maximum size of 4MB, including attachments

• All email messages are filtered for inappropriate content

• All email is scanned for viruses• Executable files cannot be attached to an

email
