1. Begin search Go to Patent Search in DWPI

2. Enter Search CriteriaIn section 2, select Text Fields, Inventor, Assignee/ Applicant, and Citations

3. Perform SearchEnter Telecommunications in the box next to Text Fields and click Search

4. Filter ResultsPress the Show Filters button in order to display filters. Select company, patent class (H04L), and click filter

5. Identify most popular text phrasesText Clustering tool is available under Analysis box

6. Choose Fields to ClusterCluster patents by title, abstract, claim, or all standard fields

7. Identify similar phrasesIdentify similar phrases that describe related product features

Analyze Results

• Higher “mountains” on the ThemeScape map (white, grey, and dark green areas) indicate a higher number of patents in the labeled word clusters

• Each dot indicates and links to an individual patent

1. Select time frame Select ThemeScape from the Analyze drop down menu

2. Save ThemeScape MapName and save your new Themescape map in the new window

3. Select ThemeScape MapSelect your newly created map from the list and allow it to load

4. View ThemeScape MapInteractive map loads in new window
