I. PRELIMINARY EXERCISE (10 marks)
Important Note: You are required to do this exercise BEFORE the lab session
i. Describe briefly the Superposition and Thevenin theorems by using an
example from your own circuit.
ii. For the circuit in Figure 1, by using Superposition theorem, calculate Il andPr at Rr: 10 C), 20 {r,30 C),40 O, 50 Q and 60 O.
iii. Repeat step ii by using Thevenin theorem.
iv. Perform the circuit analysis using PSPICE to validate your results.
v. Discuss briefly the irnportance of Thevenin and Superposition heorems itncircuit analysis.

'Thevenin and Superposition Theorems'
IMPORTANT: You need to complete the PRELIMENARY EXCERCISE before thelaboratory session.
1. Aim:
To solve circuit analysis problem by using Superposition theorem and Thevenin theorem.
2. Equipments provided :
DC power supply, ammeter, multimeter, decade resistance
Instructions :
Precaution:
i. Set the supply voltage value to the conect experimental value before connect
it to the circuit.ii. Make sure the multimeter or ammeters are connected at a right terminal.iii. Do not switch on the supply until the instructor checks all connections.
Based on the circuit in Figure 1, setup an experiment to measure the current and
voltage of the load for R;: 10 A,20 Q, 30 O, 40 C), 50 Q and 60 Q;
i. based on the original circuit.
ii. by using superposition theorem.
iii. by using Thevenin thborem.
Calculate the power absorbed by Rl from the measurements in step 2 a.
Compare and comment on the results of both theorems against the original circuit interms of voltage, current and power.
Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each theorem.
