The one that combines with interminable noise.

What kind of silence is the worst?

tinnitus is the hearing of ringing, humming, sizzling, ticking, clicking, roaring, or other sounds without an external cause. Though mild tinnitus may not interupt people’s daily lives, persistent tinnitus may cause irritability, fatigue, vertigo, and on occasions, clinical depression and musical hallucinations. There is currently no cure for it.

Even completely deaf people suffer from tinnitus.

50 Million people suffer from tinnitus

16 Million have to seek medical attention

2-3 Million lives are turned upside-down by tinnitus

In the United States,

However, there is currently no product on the market to help those patients who are completely deaf. They need help, too, if not more.

Sound therapy uses additional sound with the same frequency as the patient’s tinnitus to mask the unpleasant sound. It is the most effective for the majority of sufferers by far.

Other treatments include diet, hearing aids, medication, and surgeries.

a Way to Replace surgeries.Surgeries come at great cost, needless to mention potential complications. After research, sound conduction via bones in our teeth to the cochlear came into sight. This non-surgically invasive route makes use of our natural bone conduction in the teeth to re-route sound to the patient’s cochlear. A handheld device, such as a touchscreen phone, sends signals of sound maskers alongside the outside sound to mask tinnitus. This is a resolution for conductive-deaf patients with tinnitus.

When case is closed, UV rays are produced to sanitize both devices. Light bar on the top cover also lights up to signal the user that the system is currently in use.

Slightly rised graphics on the bottom help identify device placement. Trays are shaped like speech bubbles to encourage the patients to communicate.

Finally, the ear piece is optional for patients who are less financially capable of purchasing the whole system and those who only want tinnitus masking.

1. Visit the ENT doctor.

4. Put on mouth piece.

2. Visit the orthodontist.

5. Add in preferred noise.

3. Put on ear piece.

How to use it

The touchscreen interface for customizing sound-maskers is shown above (from left to right): Home Screen, Main Volume Control, Equalizer and Recording.

Users are given the freedom to choose the sounds and intervals for tinnitus masking. The capability of the system to record personal preferred sounds further expands the sound library beyond limit.

They can’t get to the corners.

The intertwined cord is annoying.

The size is too huge.

They look really bad.

I have to constantly get lower to the ground so

that the vacuum sucks more stuff up.

Others

I’ve no place to keep it. My space is tight.

What are the problems you have with vacuum cleaners? (Survey taken by college females)

College girls love having clean dorm rooms and apartments, but it can be difficult to find the right vacuum to help with the cleaning. central vacuum systems are too huge and thus not feasible for a college setting. stick vacuums are too tall for convenient storage, and handheld vacuums need the users to constantly bend down for floor cleaning. Is there a way to have the best of both worlds?

“Too expensive. I am better than them.”

“I can never find the on switch on the new fancy dysons.”

“Cords don’t reach all the way across the room!”

“It’s hard to wind up the cords AND fit everything into the closet when I’m done.”

Attached handle stick is inflexible.

Messy wire.

Vacuum body is as long as her calves.

The best multifunctional model I found on the market is Bissell 3-in-1 vacuum, 38b1l. It can be transformed from a handheld vacuum into a stick one by simply adding a handle stick. Even so, it is still not perfect for a college girl who always moves from one place to another – what if she loses the extension cord?

A Look at the Market

Inspirations from the simplicity of design by Philips, the mechanism in telescoping devices, and the liveliness of nature influenced the design.

Simplicity Telescoping Nature

A stick vacuum has a long handle that allows the user to clean the floor standing up, but a handheld vacuum is preferred when the user cleans tables or couches, where a short handle is needed. So why not have a telescoping handle which gives you the best of both worlds? In addition, observation and research show that cords are unnecessary because cleaning one or two rooms does not require too much electricity input.

In exploded view, parts 9 and 10 indicate placement of the telescopic handle in th new and improved compact vaccum specially designed for college girls.

Prototypes went through numerous user-testing. Finally, the most ergonomic design for 15 to 85 percentile girl hands evolved into the final model.

Here the model happily enjoys cleaning the space high or low with her new vaccum. Now every girl can turn a handy vacuum into a stick one with a simple pull and be worry free! With the cordless feature, the new model also promises much more mobility during cleaning. Hooray!

Inspired by another classic game - playing cards, I decide to give the chess set a flat appearance. By having slots in the board, the chess set reaches a creative solution to my design problem - how to ensure the chess pieces are securely placed on the chess board.

What a beautiful song, i just want to hold it.

Languid Setting Sun Innocent Girl in the Field Winding Country Road

Mood

“In The Sun“ by Joseph Arthur makes me think of a languid setting sun, an innocent young girl and winding country roads that are intertwined just like memory. Overall, it feels serene, peaceful, and somewhat melancholic.

The song is soothing and soft, so curves dominate the necklace. While some curves describe the winding country road, others mimic rays of sunlight pouring down. Positive and negative spaces intertwine to give an illusion of space and depth.

The final design was casted in aluminum and further sanded by hand. Part of it is highly polished to mimic the continuous flow of sunlight while other parts remain textured, echoing the rugged earth. The whole design hums a languish country melody. A locket was added to the back to further emphasize the feeling of melancholy.
