INITIAL FLYER

After viewing this letter, DC Tzu-Shao members were extremely moved and wanted to help spread the cause. Thus we were motivated to begin this project.

THE FIRST MEETINGDC Tzu-Shao first gathered to discuss possibilities on

how to approach the South Africa Books and School Supplies project. On 04/03/2011, members held a meeting to brainstorm ways to invite more people to participate in this project and gather more love throughout various neighborhoods. Members watched videos that reflected the lives of South Africans to understand the hardships that some of them face. During the meeting, DC Tzu-Shao created (1) a flyer to make it easier for those interested to understand the project and; (2) a letter to explain the project’s purpose.

LETTER AND FLYER

COLLECTION EFFORTS

DC Tzu-Shao members and their caring SG and SB invited many local communities and neighborhoods to join the project. Some examples include:•Tzu-Shao approached local libraries and schools for gently used or new books.•Tzu-Shao members also spread the word at their respective schools.•In addition, with the assistance of SG and SB, many culture schools willingly participated in the drive and helped collect books and school supplies.

CARD-MAKING (1)

DC Tzu-Shao creates colorful cards written with Master Cheng Yen’s Jing Si aphorisms. These are later placed in the Love Bags along with school supplies.

Susan SG reminds everyone the importance of following packing instructions such as packing the box fully and completely with no extra spaces to avoid any unforeseen damages.

Books were separated into categories that reflected their reading level (elementary, intermediate, and advanced) and subject (fiction, non-fiction, reference, etc.).

SORTING (2)

DC Tzu-Shao focuses on sorting books as they were overwhelmed by the love from so many kind-hearted people.

SORTING (3)

Teamwork makes a difference! DC Tzu-Shao’s caring SGs and parents work diligently throughout the night to help sort school supplies that have been donated from loving neighbors.

Sorting and Caring

While Tzu-Shao were busy sorting books, Eric SB was busy keeping up with environmental protection for us!

PACKING (1)

Look at all those books! Tzu-Shao members work together to pack the sorted books into boxes so they can be ready to be shipped out.

PACKING (2)

These two young gentlemen carefully pack books to follow the packing requirements after watching the touching South Africa video.

Shipping (1)

Howard SB adds the finishing touches to the boxes and pencil pouches that are to be packed and sent out.

Shipping (2)

Thank you George SB for making shipping arrangements! All boxes are placed in the parking lot, ready to be picked up by the shipping truck.

Shipping (3)

The final step: loading the boxes onto the truck. DC Tzu-Shao load the finished, packed boxes onto the truck for delivery to New York. Project completed. YAY!

THANK YOU!

A BIG THANK YOU!

From this project, DC Tzu-Shao has learned the importance of not only cherishing what they have; but also the need to give to others as well. DC Tzu-Shao is grateful of this opportunity to be able to give to the children in South Africa. However, DC Tzu-Shao could not have accomplished our goal without all the help and support from all of the caring SG/SB, neighbors, and friends. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank them for all of their support throughout the entire project. From brainstorming ideas to contacting local cultural schools; from taping boxes to making shipping arrangements and even taking pictures of the memory, DC Tzu-Shao wishes to express their never-ending gratitude.

DC Tzu-Shao couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you.
