Jazz improvisation classes

We are privileged to have Steve Fitzmaurice lined up again to teach the course. Steve is one of the best jazz/commercial saxophonists in Sydney having played with Human Nature, David Campbell, Silverchair, James Morrison, Olivia Newton-John amongst many others. The course will be split into 2 classes both learning exactly the same material and these classes will be held on Friday after school from 3:15pm-4:15pm (Class 1) and 4:15pm-5:15pm (Class 2). The intention is for all students to have the opportunity to be involved, but we especially want our stage band students to take advantage of this fabulous opportunity. As such we would be expecting that SB1 members (and potentially SB3 too if that band comes to fruition, more info in band notes tomorrow) would attend Class 1 while waiting for their rehearsal and SB2 members would attend Class 2 after their rehearsal. While we expect that these classes will be especially relevant to our stage band members they will also be open to ALL students involved in the band program at THS. The classes will cover chordal and scale theory relevant to jazz harmony as well as how to approach and practise jazz improvising and how to play and perform as part of an improvising jazz ensemble. Classes will begin on Friday 16th Feb.

New Portal Database In 2018 we are going to be utilising the My School Music portal to keep track of registrations, contact details etc for all students. Please look out for the invitation to register. We would appreciate you logging in to this to check that all of your contact details are correct. This portal will also have a calendar of events for anything coming up. We are still working on uploading so apologies if things aren’t yet quite complete!

2018 Information Evening and Band Support Group meeting An information evening for new band students will be held on Tuesday February 13 at 7.30pm in the staff common room. This will be followed at 8.00pm by the February meeting of the Band Support Group. New band parents are warmly invited to stay on for the meeting to learn more about how the band program is run and find out how they can participate. The meetings operate on a tight schedule and are usually finished by 9pm!

Polo Shirts Are you new to band? Do you have a polo shirt? If not please add to the fee invoice. These shirts are essential for band performances along with black pants, black socks and black shoes. Also black microfiber shirt available at Lowes!
