Our team of instructors is among the most experienced in Hawai'i. They represent
more than 100 years of experience teaching novice drivers. All the instructors are:

▪Insured to conduct driver education (both vehicle and commercial general liability)
Consistency:
▪Our instructors follow the same programs for classroom and behind-the-wheel
instruction. We conduct instructor meetings to share training concepts, new
material, discuss challenges instructors experience and ways to resolve those
challenges. Meetings ensure our instructors have the opportunity to improve their
teaching skills and are kept up-to-date with leading edge information.

Provisional Driver’s License Rules
•All occupants must wear a seatbelt or child
passenger safety restraint.
•Cannot transport more than one person
under the age of eighteen who is not from the
same household unless accompanied by a
licensed driver who is the teen’s parent or
guardian
•Between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 5:00
a.m. the licensed driver must be a parent or
guardian with a license in the same category
as the teen’s license, except when:
Provisional Driver’s License Rules
1. Driving to or from the teen’s place of
employment if no other transportation is
available. The teen needs to have a signed
statement from the employer containing:
•Employer’s name
•Employer’s address
•Employer’s telephone number
•Verifying employment and work
hours

2. Driving to or from an authorized activity
of the teen’s school, if no other
transportation is available. The teen needs
to have a signed statement from a parent
or guardian containing:
• Parent’s or Guardian’s name
• Parent’s or Guardian’s address
• Parent’s or Guardian’s telephone
number
• Verifying driving is necessary to
travel to the school-authorized activity
Violating Provisional License Rules
First Offense:
• Suspension of license for:
• Three months, or:
• Until the teen is 18 years old,
whichever occurs sooner
Second Offense:
• Revocation of license for:
• Six months, or:
• Until the teen is 18 years old,
whichever occurs sooner
Penalties for Conviction of a Traffic Offense – Moving Violation
• First Offense:
• Suspension or revocation of license
for:
• Six months, or:
• Until the teen is 18 years old,
whichever occurs sooner
• Second Offense:
• Revocation of license for:
• 12 months, or:
• Until the teen is 18 years old,
whichever occurs later
A Regular License will be issued when
The holder of the provisional license:
1. Has held the provisional license for at
least six months;
2. Has no pending proceeding that might
result in the suspension or revocation of
the provisional license;
3. Is at least 17 years old;
If the license is not suspended or revoked it will
expire on the licensee’s nineteenth birthday.

Once teens get their learner's permit, they
must be added to your auto insurance
policy. This is to protect you from any possible
liabilities in the event your teen has an
accident while driving - even while supervised
by an adult.
