CONVENTIONS

CAMERA SHOTS• Depending on the genre of the video there will be common shots used, Long, Medium and

close up shots will be used in most videos, this is so the artist can show their audience their location using long shots, and also show themselves or objects in their video that might link in with the lyrics.

CAMERA MOVEMENTS • Different camera movements will be used such as pans, tilts and tracking shots, they are used

so that the artist can move around in shot and also to keep the narrative clear and flow with the music and shots.

EDITING• A variety of editing techniques will be used, mainly cuts so that different shots can be put

together to make the narrative clear or to make the video flow, making it more appealing to the audience.

CONVENTIONS OF GENRES

R&B• R&B music videos will mainly focus on the artist and them showing off their lifestyle, with the

location being their house or somewhere expensive so that their audience look up to them. Will also normally feature a narrative that links in with the lyrics and is based on their past life.

ROCK • The video will most likely be purely performance with shots of the artists performing on stage

at a concert, dark lighting on the crowd so the artists are the main feature of each shot.

HOUSE/DANCE• House and dance music videos will normally feature the artist but it will be them both singing and

dancing in a routine with other dancers. Will have bright and colorful lighting to keep the artist and actors clear and also keeps the mood of the video high.
