DEFINISI MANAJEMEN & MANAJEMEN PENDIDIKAN

Management is the process of coordinating the resources of an organization so as to achieve the primary goals of the organization (Pride, Hughes and Kapoor, 1988).

Manajemen Pendidikan adalah the process of coordinating the resources of an education organization so as to achieve the primary goals of the education organization

FUNCTIONS OF MANAGEMENT

Goal setting and planning,

Organizing,

Leading and motivating employees, and

Controlling ongoing activities.

GOAL SETTING

Goal is an end state that the organization is expected to achieve.

Goal setting is developing a set of goals.

There are 3 types of goals: purpose, mission and objectives.

PURPOSE

Purpose is the reason for the organization’s existence.

For examples:

Texaco’s purpose is to earn profits for its owners.

Houston Community College System’s purpose is to provide an education to local citizens.

The purpose of the Secret Service is to protect the life of the president.

MISSION

The organization’s MISSION is the means by which it is to fulfill its purpose.

For examples:

Apple Computer attempd to fulfill is purpose by manufacturing computers.

Ford Motor Company fulfill its purpose (making a profit) by manufacturing cars.

OBJECTIVES

Objectives are specific statements detailing what the organization intends to acomplish as it goes about its mission.

For examples:

For McDonald, one objective might be that all customers will be served within two minutes of their arrival.

For IBM, one objective might be that the delivery time for home computers will be reduced by two weeks next year.

PLANNING

A plan is an outline of the actions by which the organization intends to accomplish its goals.

Planning is the process involved in developing plans.

ORGANIZING

Organizing is the grouping of resources and activities to accomplish some end result in an efficient and effective manner.

LEADING AND MOTIVATING

Leading is the process of influencing people to work toward a common goal.

Motivating is process of providing reasons for people to work in the best interest of the organization.

Together, leading and motivating are often referred to as directing.

CONTROLLING ONGOING ACTIVITIES

Controlling is the process of evaluating

and regulatingongoing activitiesn to ensure

that goals are achieved.

The control function includes three steps:

1. Setting standards, to which performence can

be compared.

2. Measuring actual performance and

comparing it with the standard.

3. Taking corrective actions as necessary.

Note: The steps inthe control steps must be repeatedperiodically

until the primary goal is achieve
