RADIATOR GROUP
Product DescriptionMerriott Towel Warmers offer outputs from 200 Watts to 1400 Watts at ΔT50˚C.
The range is formed of the Edge and Groove towel radiators, the Crystal towel warmer & Crystal E which is an electric only towel warmer.
Outputs All Merriott radiators are manufactured and tested in accordance with BS EN 442.
Finish Merriott towel warmers undergo an intensive pre-treatment process to protect against rust. In pre-treatment, the radiators go through a series of washes which degrease the steel prior to painting. The primer coat is applied by immersion in an electrophoretic bath to give total coverage of the bare steel and maximum corrosion protection. The durable topcoat (epoxy polyester powder) is electrostatically applied and stove enamel baked at 180˚C. The process is monitored to ensure continuous achievement of optimum adhesion, opacity and gloss levels.
Colour The standard finish for the Edge and Groove is semi-gloss RAL 9016 (white) in epoxy polyester powder. The Venus, Ares and Crystal towel warmers are available in chrome and white.
All chrome towel warmers are polished to a high quality finish.
Range OverviewPackaging The entire surface of the towel warmers, including all 4 corners, is protected by cardboard box ends and packed in shrink wrapped polythene.
ConnectionsStandard connections on all towel warmers are 4 x 1/2” (15mm) BSP connections at E, F, G and H.
TestingEach towel warmer is tested to 1.3 times its maximum allowable working pressure. The maximum allowable working pressure for all bathroom radiators is 5.38 Bar
Dimensional Tolerances Dimensional tolerances are in accordance with BS EN442.
MaterialsTowel Warmers are made from 1.25mm and 1.5mm thick steel tubes.
Electric Power OptionAll towel warmers can be fitted with an electrical element and can be used when the central heating is not in use. This enables users to have warm dry towels without heating the rest of the house.
Warranty Merriott towel warmers are guaranteed for a period of 10 years from date of purchase in respect of defective materials and workmanship. The system should be designed in accordance with British Standard Code of Practice for Water Based Heating Systems in Buildings BS EN 12828:2012+A1:2014 and BS EN 12831: 2003. The installation and commissioning of the system should comply with BS EN 14336:2004. On completion of the installation, the system should be properly flushed and filled in accordance with the British Code of Practice for the Treatment of Water in Domestic Hot Water Central Heating Systems BS 7593:2006, Part L of Building Regulations and Good Practice Guidance for Scotland. Merriott strongly recommends the use of corrosion inhibitor for all applications. Failure to observe these standards may invalidate the manufacturer’s warranty.

Dip Tubes Standard connections on all towel warmers are 4 x 1/2” (15mm) connections at E, F, G and H. Normal application means the towel warmer is connected up at the E and F connection, with 2 x 1/2” (15mm) airvents at the G and H locations. It is possible, using a dip tube, to pipe up the unit from the top (i.e. at G and H) to ensure overall water distribution. These can be inserted into the product or can be retrofit if required.
Features & Options
Dual Adaptor KitThis consists of an electric element and a T-Piece (illustrated below) and can be used on all towel warmers to achieve heat when the central heating is not being used, during summer months for example.
Dual Adaptor Kits can be retrofitted if necessary. The size of electric element will depend on the size of the towel warmer itself. For more information on sizing, please contact the Merriott Sales Office.

The outputs quoted in this brochure are based on a Δ T of 50˚C.
Listed below are the multiplying factors needed to calculate the output at other Delta Ts (ΔTs) between 20˚C and 60˚C. This is done by multiplying your heat output with the appropriate correction factor selected from the table below. Please note more detailed correction factors for towel warmers are available from your local Merriott contact.
EXAMPLE:Required Room Temperature = 21˚C, Flow Temperature = 86˚C, Return Temperature = 72˚C
SOLUTION:Mean Water Temperature = (T Flow+T Return)/2 = (86 +72)/2 = 79˚C
ΔT = Mean Water Temperature - Required Room Temperature = 79 -21 = 58˚C
From the tables below, the output for the towel warmer at ΔT58˚C is 1.1984 times the output stated at ΔT50˚C.

How to calculate the resistance of a Towel Warmer at ΔT 50˚C
Towel Warmer Type: Crystal Straight 1160mm LONG x 600mm HIGH
Output @ ΔT 50˚C: 643W (flow/return – 75/65˚C)
If the output is not at ΔT50˚C, please use the correction factor table on the previous page to get the correct output.
C – Specific Heat Constant (always 4187 J/kg˚C)
Q – (m) x (C) x (ΔT)
Output – (flow rate) x (Constant) x (difference between flow and return temp)
Watts – (l/s) (J/kg˚C) (˚C)
643 – (m) (4187) (10)
Therefore
m – 643 / ((4187) x (10))
m – 0.0153570 (L/S)
x 3600 (L/H)
m – 55.2852 L/H
Please refer to the resistance diagram which gives a value of approx 9.5m Bar.
