WORKING TOWARDSOUR FUTURE: WHAT, WHY, HOW

TOWN HALL MEETING 8 NOVEMBER 2013 12:00 - 13:30

MISSION, AMBITION AND GOALS AS FORMULATED IN MULTI-ANNUAL PLAN 2013- 2016

WHY THIS DIRECTION? - THE VISION BEHIND IT

HOW TO GET THERE?

TALKING POINTS TODAY

MISSION

“TO ADVANCE THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT FOR

THE BENEFIT OF SOCIETY”

TO EDUCATE STUDENTS to become professionals and academics who possess the knowledge, skills and thinking power to contribute to a better built environment, and to the process of designing a better built environment.

TO PERFORM INTERNATIONALLY OUTSTANDING RESEARCH that can serve as a building block towards better understanding and improving the built world in which we live.

TO SERVE AS A PLATFORM for exchange, inspiration and debate for the international knowledge community in the built environment, and in the process of designing the built environment.

AMBITION

“TO BE AMONG THE WORLD'S TOP FIVE INSTITUTIONS OF

HIGHER EDUCATION IN ARCHITECTURE AND

THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT”

WHY THIS AMBITION?

GLOBAL PLAYING FIELD

creating the built environment has become a global playing field; we have to prepare our students for an international working environment.

KNOWLEDGE AS AN ECONOMIC DRIVER

the Netherlands has by tradition had a strong international profile in architecture, urbanism and the like. The potential for building on that is therefore considerable.

ACADEMIC HIGHER EDUCATION INCREASINGLY COMPETITIVE

only the best will benefit; online education will strengthen this.

EXTERNAL FUNDING ESSENTIAL

government funding is under pressure and we will have to attract external funding, including for research; we will have to be amongst the best to secure this funding.

..having a robust student body of around 2800 students in BSc and MSc programmes;

..being highly international with 50% of the MSc students from abroad;

..publishing many articles in peer reviewed indexed magazines through a platform

that we partly created ourselves;

...still producing many internationally acclaimed books and exhibitions;

...receiving NWO and ERC grants as "business as usual";

...financing 30% of research through contract funding;

...having a highly motivated crew feeling "free to excel';

...continuing to provide an unforgettable academic and working environment in BK City;

..ranking amongst the global top 3 of Institutes in our field;
