Removal

 2. Remove the following items:     1. Refer to: Cowl Panel See: Cowl > Removal and Replacement > Cowl Panel (501-02 Front End Body Panels,Removal and Installation).

   2. Refer to: Battery Tray See: Battery Tray > Removal and Replacement > Battery Tray (414-01 Battery, Mountingand Cables, Removal and Installation).

   3. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe See: Air Cleaner Housing > Removal and Replacement > Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe(303-12A Intake Air Distribution and Filtering - 1.6L EcoBoost (132kW/180PS)- Sigma, Removal and Installation).

 8. Use Special Service Tool: 303-1502 Lifting Device Engine.

 9. Use Special Service Tool: 303-F072 Support Bar, Engine. , 303-290B-18 Adapter for 303-290B. , 303-1502 LiftingDevice Engine.

20. NOTE: If transmission disassembly or installation of a new transmission is necessary, drain the transmission

fluid. Torque : 106 lb.in (12 Nm)

23. NOTICE: Do not use a hammer to separate the tie-rod end from the wheel knuckle or damage to the wheelknuckle can result.

NOTICE: Use care when installing the tie-rod end separator or damage to the outer tie-rod end boot may occur.     Use the General Equipment: Tie Rod End Remover

24. NOTICE: Do not use a prying device or separator fork between the ball joint and the wheel knuckle. Damage tothe ball joint or ball joint boot may result. Only use the pry bar by inserting it into the lower arm body opening.

NOTICE: Use care when releasing the lower arm and wheel knuckle into the resting position or damage to the balljoint seal and/or CV (constant velocity) joint boot may occur.

34. NOTICE: Secure the transmission to the transmission jack with a safety strap.

    Support the transmission with a transmission jack.

35. NOTE: The transmission-to-engine bolts differ in length. Mark the bolts for correct installation.

37. Use Special Service Tool: 307-566 Retainer, Torque Converter.

38. NOTICE: Failure to clean the tubes can result in transmission failure. transmission fluid cooler

    If the transmission is to be overhauled or if installing a new or re-manufactured transmission, carry out thetransmission fluid cooler backflushing and cleaning. Clean the transmission-mounted transmission fluid coolertubes by hand.

Installation

 1. Use Special Service Tool: 307-566 Retainer, Torque Converter.

 2. Material : Motorcraft(R) Multi-Purpose Grease Spray / XL-5 (ESB-M1C93-B)

   

 3. NOTICE: If the transmission is not positioned on the dowel pins, damage to the transmission may occur. NOTE: If the dowel pins were pulled out of the engine block during removal, install new dowel pins in the engine

block.

 4. NOTICE: Secure the transmission to the transmission jack with a safety strap.

    Support the transmission with a transmission jack.

    Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack

 5. Position the transmission behind the engine and remove the Torque Converter Retainer.     Use Special Service Tool: 307-566 Retainer, Torque Converter.     Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack

 6. NOTE: Align the index-mark made during removal.

 7. Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack     Torque : 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

 8. NOTE: Install the different length bolts in the correct locations as noted during removal.

Torque : 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

 9. Torque : 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

10. Torque : 18 lb.in (2 Nm)

11.    1. Torque : 71 lb.in (8 Nm)

    2. Torque : 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

    3. Torque : 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

12. Torque : 59 lb.ft (80 Nm)

13. Material : Threadlock and Sealer / TA-25-B     Torque : 92 lb.ft (125 Nm)

All wheel drive (AWD)

Vehicles with front wheel drive (FWD)

16. NOTE: If the transmission has been replaced or overhauled, the halfshaft seals do not need to be replaced.

17. NOTE: Remove the seal protector before completely installing the halfshaft.

    Use Special Service Tool: 205-461 Protector, Differential Oil Seal (pair).

   3. Refer to: Cowl Panel See: Cowl > Removal and Replacement > Cowl Panel (501-02 Front End Body Panels,Removal and Installation).

41. Refer to: Selector Lever Cable Adjustment - 6-Speed Automatic Transmission - 6F35 See: Shift Cable, A/T >Adjustments > Selector Lever Cable Adjustment - 6-Speed Automatic Transmission - 6F35 (307-05 AutomaticTransmission External Controls, General Procedures).

42. Refer to: Transmission Fluid Drain and Refill See: Automatic Transmission/Transaxle > Procedures >Transmission Fluid Drain and Refill (307-01 Automatic Transmission - 6-Speed Automatic Transmission - 6F35,General Procedures).

43. After completing the repairs perform the Misfire Monitor Neutral Profile Correction procedure.

44. NOTE: If a new solenoid body is installed, the solenoid body strategy must be updated.
