Introduction to the TTS group
The TTS group is an
international technology-
based company, supplying
cargo access and drilling
equipment to the marine and
offshore industries. Working
closely with customers to
devise intelligent and
innovative solutions, TTS offers
the expertise to improve
productivity, quality and
system capacity, so increasing
profitability and competitive-
ness. Close cooperation within
the group enables TTS to
deliver integrated products
and know-how for cargo
handling, drilling and mooring.
The parent company of the
TTS group, TTS Marine ASA,
was established in 1966 with
company headquarters based in
Bergen, Norway. TTS Marine
ASA has been listed on the Oslo
Stock Exchange since 1995.
The group’s activities are
organised into five business
divisions: Marine Cranes, Dry
Cargo Handling, Port and
Material Handling, Deck
Machinery, and Offshore
Drilling. These divisions are
responsible for the design and
supply of a wide range of
equipment including container
terminal technology, cargo
handling systems, cargo cranes,
hose handling cranes, special
load handling, anchor and
mooring winches, cargo access
and drilling equipment.
A worldwide aftersales and
service network operates
around the clock supporting
the entire TTS range of
products.
Approximately 1,450 people
are employed across the group.

Typical products include
shiplifts, which give greater
flexibility and capacity to
repair and newbuilding yards;
slipways and side launch
systems for small and medium
sized yards; rail transfer
systems; and the fluid bed
PWT system – a newly
developed, fast moving and
flexible ship or block handling
system perfect for smaller
ships and mega yachts, giving
excellent access to the hull.
The multiwheel translifter
can be used to handle small
ship sections and heavy
components. In all TTS heavy
load applications, cradles,
trestles or pallets are used as
load supporting carriers and
enable the moving vehicle/
trolley to be disconnected
from the load.
Decades of
experience stand

The TTS aftersales, maintenance and service programmeTo improve its product support, TTS Handling Systems has devised a comprehensive on-
demand service package giving customers ready access to spare parts and the benefit of
TTS engineers’ know-how, worldwide
Following demand from its
customers in the offshore and
shipyard sectors, TTS Handling
Systems has created a flexible
administration programme
designed to monitor and
ensure operational reliability in
customers’ equipment.
Companies adopting the
programme can then rely on
TTS as a ready service partner
at every level of operation.
Following initial instruction
from the customer as to scope
of service and required level of
operational reliability, the TTS
aftersales, maintenance and
service programme (AMS) will
significantly reduce the risk of
operational failure.
The AMS offeringThe programme can provide:
• Maintenance crew training
• Technical service personnel
• Use of TTS/STAR-IPS
administration software for
maintenance and spares
• Comprehensive surveillance
of equipment condition and
system reliability based on
maintenance performed and
availability of spare parts.
Under the programme, TTS will
ensure that spare parts are
delivered on site within 48
hours of request, no matter
where in the world the parts
are required, subject to
availability. TTS also
guarantees that a service/
technical supervisor will be on
site within 48 hours. In such
cases, tools must be provided
by the customer.
The softwareThe secure and reliable
application software uses the
TTS/STAR-IPS database which
gives customers a choice of
four levels of service:
• Identification and
registration of spare parts
• Spare parts stock control,
with enquiry and order sent
direct to TTS Handling
Systems
• Comprehensive
maintenance system
• Surveillance, inspection and
regular equipment
condition reporting with a
direct link to TTS Handling
Systems.
The budget is presented in a matrixbetween finance and technicalaccounts. The system may beintegrated with external costcontrol tools, and has a built ingateway to various accountingsystems
The TTS spare parts register
keeps track of all parts that
may be subject to replacement
on all of TTS Handling Systems’
delivered projects. The register
will always be kept up-to-date
by TTS. Any upgrade to, or
superseding of, existing spare
part models will immediately
be logged into the register, and
the customer notified.
An important feature of the
PMS software module is the
control of materials and
services. The spare part
window contains all stock,
ordering, maker, and location
details for a part. All jobs to
which this part is connected
can be referenced via the
Connections tab.

The TTS spare parts registerInternet-based supply management applications continue to improve the business of spare
parts supply. The TTS spare parts register database drives a real-time tracking system, ensuring
customers’ equipment is cost-effectively maintained with maximum uptime

Spare parts inventory and managementLarge stocks of guaranteed, high quality spare parts are available at
short notice to TTS customers worldwide
The programme to ensure
reliable operation begins with
registering the equipment.
From there, the inventory
management system logs:
• The correct type of parts
• The number of those parts
in stock
• The amount of capital tied
up in spares so that the
system can make sure that
this is kept to a minimum.
The database can also show
a 2D or 3D image of all parts,
from the fully-assembled main
equipment down to the
smallest detail, for example a
washer, gasket or o-ring.
The number of parts required
to perform a maintenance
operation, according to
instruction, is listed in the
system and customers are
automatically given that
information when the job is
due to be performed. This
ensures that no dismantling of
critical equipment will take
place without having the
correct number of parts on site.
A warning is given if the
level of parts falls beneath re-
order level.
The re-order level will be
adjusted according to type,
interval between maintenance
operations, and delivery lead
time.
If a vital piece of equipment
is damaged and the yard has
no replacement, TTS will be
able to trace the a suitable
part through clients’ stock
worldwide.
All reports are immediately
available. These include
information on:
• Parts used
• Parts in stock
• Parts on order
• Parts to be ordered,
• Turnover of parts
• Cost of parts used
• Cost of parts in stock.
The shortest possible
time from the
customer’s request
to the dispatch of
service personnel
and spare parts

The international standard DIN
31051 sets out the measures
required to determine and
assess as well as to maintain
and restore the actual
condition of technical systems.
The measures fall into three
categories:
• Maintenance: measures to
maintain the required
condition
• Inspection: measures to
determine and assess the
actual condition
• Corrective maintenance:
measures to restore the
required condition
The system is based around
maintenance intervals which
can either be daily, when at
operation, weekly, monthly,
annually or by running hours.
The maintenance can be
carried out as a complete
review of all equipment, or on
a manageable job-by-job basis.
Maintaining the system one
piece of equipment at a time is
less time consuming and can
easily be executed during
regular operation. Maintaining
22 trolleys or a complete panel
production line in one session,
for example, is both time
consuming and can delay
operations in the yard.
All actions performed on the
equipment will be reported
into the database, for example
running hours, unscheduled
stops, and breakdowns.
If a breakdown occurs, it will
be described, along with the
action taken to rectify the
problem. That will, in turn give
valuable information so that
TTS can investigate the cause
of the breakdown and, if
necessary, modify the
maintenance procedure, the
intervals between
maintenance operations, or
the equipment itself.
Based on feedback to the
system, customers will be
notified automatically when
the next piece of equipment is
due for maintenance.
Unscheduled stopsAny unscheduled repair will be
reported into the system and,
based on an accumulated
history, a fairly accurate view
of the equipment’s reliability
can be taken.
Unscheduled stops are
always costly as the mechanics
are not at the location, there
are no tools ready, no spares
will have been ordered, and
none will be in stock.
All reports are immediately
available. These include
information on:
• Maintenance done
• Maintenance due
• Maintenance overdue
• Unscheduled repairs
• Cost of maintenance.
With careful reporting and
pricing of maintenance staff
and spare parts, the system is
able to give an accurate cost
control of the maintenance
and compare this against
budget. The cost can be broken
down by parts, and the cost
value of maintenance and
operation against the cost of a
new model can be measured.
MaintenanceBecause of the nature and scope of its business, TTS has developed a wide range of
engineering skills to suit its varied customer market sectors. TTS engineers are
therefore able to fulfil customer requests for service across its entire portfolio

SurveillanceRegular monitoring is key to successful maintenance and breakdown prevention.
Customers can rely on the TTS administration programme to ensure cost-effective
operation and optimised equipment uptime
A survey is an examination by a
qualified surveyor on a piece of
equipment in order to report on
its condition. This is done by:
• Monitoring the
maintenance programme
• Monitoring corrective
repairs
• Monitoring accident and
incident reports
• Monitoring spare parts in
stock
The maintenance reporting
system is a database of
knowledge, which can be used
to alter the maintenance
intervals to suit the rate of
operation, and thus save
unnecessary cost on
maintenance and spare parts.
Because TTS has a database
of surveillance from clients
worldwide, customers are able
to receive feedback concerning
maintenance intervals and
procedures, use of spare parts,
and incident prevention.
TTS is also able to search for
the availability of spare parts
from other clients. Then, once
found, send the part to its
required location, provided the
assent of the owner is given.
Reports can be designed accordingto the owner’s requirements andpresented on the web or asprintouts. Key PerformanceIndicators (KPI) can be created forall available data

The crewing sector is highly
competitive, but there is
always a danger of shortage in
suitably qualified crew
members. Industry regulation
is demanding higher training
standards, and growth in the
world fleet has put its own
pressure on operators, who
need to hire and retain
competent, qualified, well-
trained and motivated crews.
TTS has created a programme
of seminars and practical
workshops designed to
educate maintenance crew in
the latest methods, theories
and technologies employed in
the material handling
industries. The training meets
mandatory international
compliance standards for
maintenance.
Training is usually held at the
customer’s office or yard
location and can be tailored to
encompass any material
handling technology
requirements concerning TTS
equipment. Sessions are run by
experienced engineers who
have a good understanding of
the capabilities and
compatibility of multinational
crews.
A certificate is issued at the
end of the programme as a
record that the participant has
reached the required standard
of expertise.
Training of maintenance crewExperts in their field, TTS service engineers are able to contribute valued knowledge
and experience to the training of maintenance personnel, to improve crew quality,
compliance and retention

Information and planning system for yard managementThe TTS/Star Information and Planning System has been cost-effectively implemented
in a variety of locations and yards. The system covers all aspects of yard management
from environmental and safety regulation compliance to budget control
The TTS/Star Information and
Planning System has been
developed specifically for yard
management. The system is
designed to help:
• Follow up planned and
corrective maintenance

TTS Handling Systems’
database will be located at a
server in Norway and will be
maintained by TTS. Customers
will therefore not need to
educate a user to maintain the
software.
A password will be
administered, allowing
customers to enter the
database at their level of
choice, giving access to
information on spare parts
and/or maintenance
administration for yard
equipment.
All maintenance will be
executed according to
instructions given in the
database, then reported back
into it. The use of spare parts
will also be reported into the
database. TTS will then be able
to monitor the condition of
the equipment and/or its
maintenance progress and
automatically supply spare
parts to the customer.
The volume of spares to be
kept in stock will be
determined by the
maintenance interval and the
availability of spares and lead
time.
The databaseThe TTS database is used for the administration of spare parts, maintenance of equipment,
and incident reporting. Customers can choose their level of access to the database
according to routine requirements
