Step 1: Think of 5-8 things you are good at doing—write them on your car

Step 2: Who are you close to? Who is important in your life?—write them above your carStep 3: What do you like to do for fun? –-write these things on your gas pumpStep 4: What things cause you stress in your life? Draw these as potholes or speed bumps in front of you car.

Step 1= Power. Perceptions of our strengths affects self esteem and identityStep 2 = Love and Belonging. Do we have support? Where? What kind?Step 3 = Fun. Do we have ways to energize ourselves?
Step 4 = Freedom. What trips us up? What can we do to change it? How do we cope?
Ways you can use this with your mentee
Conversation starter Do it together and compare/contrast your pictures Going deeper in conversation and what is really important Assessment: What are things like for your mentee in terms of
basic needs? What area is most important to support and target?
How aware is your mentee about his/her basic needs? What do they want to change?
Choose an area to target, make a goal with your mentee You can return to this multiple times for conversation and
follow-up You could do this at the beginning of the year and again at
the end of the year to see what has changed over time
