NEW DELHI, Nov 3:

The iconic flag-lowering andretreat ceremony at Wagahresumed partially today on theIndian side, a day after a power-ful terror blast killed 61 peopleacross this border in Pakistan.

The Border Security Force(BSF) responded to a lateevening communication byPakistan Rangers to carry outthe ceremony after they had yes-terday expressed their desire tostop it for three days.

“We were told about 4 pm byPak Rangers that they would wantto carry out the evening ceremonyruling out their yesterday’s wishto stop the ceremony for three

days. As it was late for us to carryout the full-fledged drill ourtroops conducted a scaled-downprocedure without the public,”BSF chief D K Pathak said.

“We will be holding the fullceremony from tomorrowevening with the audience inattendance,” he said.

BSF officials said they willdeploy all the security and logisti-cal measures from tomorrow toenable the people and touristsregale this over an hour ceremony.

Across the border, Pakistanthis evening allowed generalpublic to view the popular flag-lowering ceremony at Wagahalong the Indo-Pak border.

tents to camouflage the blast sitein order to hide the vision fromIndian side.

Outside Attari Border,Indians were seen anxiouslyenquiring about the blast fromvisitors coming from Pakistan.

Today BSF were also availingthe help of sniffer dogs to check theluggage of Pakistani passengers.

In the evening, PunjabFrontier Inspector General BSFAshok Kumar along with seniorofficers visited internationalborder to take stock of the situa-tion besides checking the securi-ty measure.

At least 61 people were killedand nearly 200 injured when a sui-cide attacker detonated a powerful

bomb at Wagah in Pakistan yester-day, minutes after the flag-lower-ing ceremony at the land bordercrossing finished. (PTI)
