TYPES OF SENTENCES

A declarative sentence is a sentence that

forms a statement.

Example : We are going to Six Flags for Sally's birthday party.

Interrogative sentences are sentences that

form a question. Example : What are you doing for your

birthday on Monday ?

An imperative sentence states a command or

request. Example : Go get the invitations for your

birthday party.

An exclamatory sentence expresses powerful

feelings or emotions. Example : I cant wait to turn up at my

birthday party !

A simple sentence has one independent

clause. Example : My friends, and I went to Fright

Fest for Halloween.

A compound sentence has two independent clauses joined by coordinating conjunctions, conjunctive adverbs or semicolons.

Example : Jasmine wanted to go to a haunted

house but Jalen wanted to go trick or treating .

A complex sentence has one dependent

clause joined to a independent clause.

Example : Since Mariah was going to Netherworld for Halloween, she asked if Myra wanted to come.

A compound-complex sentence has two independent clauses joined to one or more dependent clauses.

Example : While Zoya was in Paris , Jonathan

went to a Halloween party, and Ricky went trick or treating with friends.
