Everything else is called Flexible Staging
If it doesn’t fit into one of the three stages, it is Flexible.
Drapes
•Grand Drape
•Border
•Legs
•Traveler
•Cyclorama
•Backdrop
Grand Drape•Also called the “Act Curtain”
•Front most curtain
•Shields the stage from view before the play starts.
Borders and Legs•Borders used to mask lighting
equipment from most of audience
•Legs mask offstage actors and equipment
Today’s Assignment•On Plain White Paper draw and write
the following:1. Draw the three stage types and label the audience and
stage in each
2. Explain what Rake means
3. Draw the small stage with 9 Acting Areas; label each
4. Draw the large stage with 15 Acting Areas; label each
5. Draw two Arena stage types with each of the alternate stage direction methods
6. Draw a proscenium stage; on the stage draw and label at least four types of drapes (think about how they are used and what they are used for this will help you place thme correctly
7. Do 1-6 again, on 3 & 4 put the audience in a different place, on 6 use at least one different drape example
Traveler Curtain•“Travels” across the length of the stage.

•Usually a mid stage and an up stage.
Cyclorama•White (sometimes other colors)

Backdrop•Curtain or soft good that has the
illusion of 3D scenery painted on it.
