To type, use your fingers to press down on keys

Hand Placement on the Keyboard

Right Hand

Left Hand

Your Left hand should be on the keys:A, S, D, F

Your Right hand should be on the keys:J, K, L, ;

Activity: Placing your hands on the Keyboard (Left Hand)

Put your index finger on “F”

(Left Hand)

Put your middle finger on “D”

(Left Hand)

Put your ring finger on “S”

(Left Hand)

Put your pinky finger on “A”

(Left Hand)

Put your thumb on the left hand side of the “Space Bar”

Types of Keys Chart

Control Keys

Keys that are used alone or in combination with other keys to perform certain actions

Most frequently used control keys are:

ESC, Ctrl, Alt, Shift, and the Windows Logo key

ESC

Used to exit a program

Ctrl

Used with an additional key to perform a specific function

Alt

Used to change the function of other pressed keys

Shift

Used with a letter key to type capital letters and other alternate upper characters

Windows logo

Used to bring up the start menu or start screen on PC’s

Function Keys

They are used to perform specific tasks. They are labeled as F1, F2, F3, and so on.
