On Saturday 27 July, UMI Arts will launch the very first UMI Soundz concert. UMI Soundz is a new Indigenous music program that showcases and supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander contemporary musicians from Far North Queensland. Bands performing include: Djun Djun Jarra, Cold Water Band and Phoenix Rising along with other emerging acts.

Pathways is an annual exhibition to feature the artists who have successfully completed the UMI Arts Exhibition Ready Program in the last twelve months. This year, Pathways 4 features Wayne McGinness, Tatipai Barsa, Cheryl Creed and George Riley.Pathways 4 showcases a wide range of mediums and styles, including stainless steel sculptures, portrait paintings and works representing the rainforest regions and the Torres Strait Islands.

Freshwater Saltwater - Connecting to Country is UMI Arts’ first themed exhibition.Curated by the UMI Arts Gallery Curator, Teho Ropeyarn, it encompasses many facets of Indigenous peoples and cultures in Far North Queensland. The exhibition explores the holistic existence of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and connections to their lands.

Big Talk One Fire Concert is UMI Arts’ annual signature event that celebrates and showcases the cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities from Far North Queensland. This year, UMI Arts is proud to partner with the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland’s CIAF Presents program, to bring you an exciting concert line-up featuring Dan Sultan and Sean Choolburra. Also performing: Zennith Boyz, Djun Djun Jarra, Yarrabah Dancers, Zugubal Dancers Badu Island, Cold Water Band and Ivana Gibson.

The UMI Arts Markets focus on authentic, “as traditional as we can get it” Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts and crafts from Far North Queensland.The Markets provide a great opportunity to learn about and purchase goods directly from the people who make them.The UMI Arts Markets have been running for over 4 years and provide local Indigenous artists with a high-profile public place to show and sell their works. Stall-holders keep 100% of their profits, so shoppers know where their money goes.
