Grant Programs

• Starter Grant for ACS Student Chapters at Two-Year CollegesTwo-Year Colleges can receive starter grants in the amount of $500 to start or reactivate an ACS student chapter at that institution.

• National Meeting Travel GrantACS awards grants to help ACS student chapters cover registration fees, lodging, and/or transportation costs associated with ACS national meetings.

• Undergraduate Programming at Regional Meetings GrantChapters can receive up to $2,800 to develop undergraduate events and activities for ACS regional meetings.

• Community Interaction GrantChapters are eligible to receive up to $500 to help improve the science learning experience of minority children through community interactions and projects.

• Innovative Activities GrantActive chapters are eligible to receive up to $500 in matching funds to support new and innovative chemistry-related projects.

Undergraduate Programming at ACS Regional Meetings Grant

• A grant of up to $2,800 is awarded Student Chapters each academic year to host the Undergraduate Program at their respective Regional Meetings.

• The grant seeks to support events and activities for undergraduates, as well as provide professional development for the chapter planning the program.

• Grant Review Process

– 2 faculty advisors review each grant proposal and offer suggestions on the program and award level

Undergraduate Programming at ACS Regional Meetings Grant

Proposals should include:

• At least three educational or career-related events for undergraduates

• Budget analysis

• Marketing plan

• Timeline

• Evaluation plan

• Letter of support from the Program Chair

Suggested Events

• Research Poster Session (1.5 – 2 hrs)

• Technical Symposium (1.5 – 2 hrs)

• Eminent Scientist Lecture (1.5 hrs)

• Green Chemistry Workshop (1.5 – 2 hrs)

• Career Symposium or Panel Discussion (1.5 – 2 hrs)

• How to Be an Award-Winning Chapter Workshop (2 hrs)

• Kids & Chemistry Workshop (3 hrs)

• Kick-Off Social Event (1.5 – 2 hrs)

Marketing / Publicity

• Promotional flyers to targeted schools

• Maintain a visibility on the regional meeting website

• Advertisement for inChemistry magazine

• Item content for FANmail newsletter

• Feature in our Reactions Blog

*Undergraduate Programs Office provides mailing lists

Responsibilities

Host Chapter:

• Prepare and submit the grant proposal

• Manage the undergraduate program budget

• Organize events, make logistical arrangements with the organizing committee, etc.

• Market and promote the undergraduate program to their target audiences

• Evaluate the program

• Complete the final and financial reports

Responsibilities

General/Program Chair:

• Work with all interested chapters to plan an undergraduate program

• Submit a letter of support for the proposed program

• Assist with logistical arrangements such as room assignments and Audio/Visual needs

• Notify the chapter of all important deadlines, such as those for C&EN, abstracts, and the onsite program

• Assist with Undergraduate Programming at Regional Meetings website

Fall Regional Meetings:

• August/September

– September 28, 2012

– September 27, 2013

Spring Regional Meetings:

• November/December

– November 2, 2012

– November 1, 2013
