Developing the Sports Performer

Students should demonstrate knowledge and understanding of physical activity (AO1) and an ability to analyse and evaluate it critically (AO3).

Students will be expected to research their chosen role of either performer, leader or official in one physical activity in a specific international context.

(Different country from tasks 2.2 and 2.3)

If the task is presented in continuous prose format, then 1000 words is considered an appropriate length.

This task is marked out of 15.Marks are in five bands1-3 - limited level of knowledge4-6 - moderate level of knowledge 7-9 - good level of knowledge 10-12 - high level of knowledge 13-15 - very high level of knowledge

It can be delivered in a range of formats including project, PowerPoint or lecture.

Gives an opportunity to further personalise the qualification.

It is flexible around the needs, interests and experiences of the centre and the candidate.

Centres should deliver a range of examples from different international contexts.

Requires research and ability to analyse and evaluate provision internationally.

Will promote a debate on strengths and weaknesses of sport structures adopted by other countries.

What could students put into their assignment?

This should differ for different roles, activities and nations

When completed it should be added to the students e-portfolio

If relevant the assignment could include the following information

Set the context of the chosen role (performer / coach / official).State the Nation, its sporting context and the activity.

Report on the national training facilities, topography, sports networks and funding or support from additional agencies.

Explain the sporting ethos of the nation regarding Physical Education, Sport and Physical Activity.

Research the role of Government and its political, social and economic impact on sport.

Explain how ideology, religion or national identity affects the sport and its development.

Present information on Grass roots participation / Mass Participation.

Describe any activity specific schemes or volunteer programmes.

Report on the development in schools, clubs and in the local community.

Describe the various pathways from grassroots to elite and then international elite.

Report on the format of competitions.

Explain the extent to which labour migration or indigenous population affects sport and its development.

Critically analyse findings.

The task should be independently researched and referenced throughout including a bibliography / webliography.

The task should be factual and concise !
