Verizon Terremark operates 11 cloud data centers. These data centers, and other like them, provide the foundation for “the cloud.” While many businesses and their employees use cloud computing everyday, not many people actually know what the cloud looks like.
What follows is a series of images and captions to give a behind-the-scenes look at a Verizon Terremark cloud data center. This is the NAP of the Americas in Miami, Fla.
Verizon Terremark has implemented very strict protocols throughout the building to maintain physical and network security. Beyond this, the pictures will show the various equipment - such as generators and air handlers - it takes to not only power the cloud, but keep it up and running.

North Lobby
This is the North Lobby, where we welcome special guests including customers and prospects. We have a strict security process to access the building. Even employees have to go through the security process each time they enter and leave the building.

The screen you see in the center of the image shows the top level of the domain name system hierarchy that converts website names to their IP address equivalents.

Generators
In most Verizon Terremark facilities customers are offered power service level agreements of 100 percent. While we get power from a commercial provider, these generators are used in the event of a spike in power or an outage.

Air Handlers
Outside contaminants such as hair, dust and dirt can lead to electrical and mechanical failure within data center equipment. This building has 46 air handlers to protect against this type of contamination.
