Section A: Plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the year towards quality enhancement
(attach separate sheet if required).
To make provision for infrastructural augmentation considering the new courses planned for the next year
by the study centre of YCMOU. Upgrading laboratories by procuring new equipments.
To start M. Sc (Chemistry) course.
To conduct community oriented activities.
To conduct health awareness and orientation programmes for girl students.
To encourage the students in the Science faculty to undertake in-house projects during vacations in the
month of April, 2007.
To introduce the degree course of B.B.A., M.B.A., M.C.A. at the centre of Tilak Maharashtra
University.
To introduce short term/part time computer courses, like Computer Fundamental Course,
D.T.P.,TALLY, MS-CIT., so as to make the students computer savvy.
To conduct orientation programme for first year students.
To arrange induction lectures or seminars for the teaching and non-teaching staff about reaccreditation
by NAAC.
To organize seminars / conferences / workshops to discuss and deliberate on current issues in the
related subjects and thereby enhance the quality of teaching learning process.
To conduct theme based co-curricular, extra-curricular, outreach activities through NSS/DACEE/WDC
and other such units.
To arrange workshop on career development along the guidelines of U.G.C.

Section B: Details in respect of the following (attach separate sheet).
1. Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the institution :
Inauguarated Nature Club “Srishti – In Harmony with Nature” on 26/6/2006 by chief guest of the function
Dr. (Mrs.) Maya Mahajan (Assosciate Manager, Godrej Marine Institute).
Educational programs were offered to students in the form of study tour programmes conducted in various
departments.
The college conducted an intercollegiate singing and dancing competition, “NAKSHATRA 2006”, (In
search of Stars) for three days from 22nd to 24th Dec 2006. Shri. Amitabh Chandra (Director, Food and Drug
Adulteration), Shri. Bhai Jagtap (MLA), Smt. Aditi Sarangdhar (Marathi Actress), Shri. Makrand Anaspure
(Marathi Actor) were the eminent personalities present on this occasion.
Short term computer courses like D.T.P., TALLY, MS-CIT were introduced by Vikas Career College.
Conducted an orientation session for the students of First Year B.Sc, B.Sc.(Biotech) and B.Sc.(IT)on 4th
July 2005. Milind Koli (CEO, E-Volve Technologies, Thane), Dr. S.S.Yeragi (K.J.Somaiya College,
Vidyavihar) guided the students about the scope of the subject and employment opportunities in the present
scenario.
A study visit was organized by the Dept. of Physics to Nehru Science Centre and Nehru Planetarium ,
Mumbai on 21st Sept 2005 for F.Y.B.Sc and S.Y.B.Sc students under the able guidance of Professor and the
Head of the Department, Mrs. Prajakta Borgaonkar.
National Graduate Physics Exam was conducted by the Dept. of Physics on 22nd January 2007.
Botany Department organized one day workshop on Plastic Waste Management in assosciation with
Bharatiya Agro Industries and Foundation (BAIF) and Ministry of Environment, New Delhi.
2. New academic programmes initiated (UG and PG)
The centre of Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University in the premises has introduced a
paramedical B. Sc (MLT) course.

The centre of TILAK MAHARASHTRA UNIVERSITY in the premises has introduced B.B.A./ M. B.A./
M.C.A. courses.
3. Innovations in curricular design and transaction
A. Our central library arranges book exhibitions periodically in the library.
The college organized an exhibition and a workshop on Food and Drug Adulteration on 15th Jan 2007.
Physics Department conducted an Intercollegiate competition “PHYPHASE” comprising of T Shirt painting
and Poster painting competition, presentation of model based on Physics topics on 16th Sept 2006.
Physics Department conducted a Seminar on “Meet The Scientist” on 28th Sept 2006. The Seminar was
presided by Dr. Ajay Dhar, Scientist ??? from Indian Institute of Geomagnetism (IIG) accompanied by Prof.
Dr. S.G.Gupta (H.O.D. University of Mumbai). Dr. Ajay Dhar shared with the students his experience about
his research at Antartica and Dr. S.G.Gupta delivered a lecture on Pyramid Power.
Educational / industrial visits were arranged for the students from the Dept. of Biotechnology.

The Dept. of Botany conducted study tour for F.Y. B.Sc. and F.Y (Biotech) in Jijamata Botanical Garden,
Byculla on 10th January, 2007 and for the S.Y. B.Sc. (Botany) students to Sanjay Gandhi National Park ,
Borivli on 13th January, 2007.
Educational trip to Nehru Science Centre was arranged for the students and staff of the Dept.of Physics on
15/07/2006 and the same group attended a science based film festival on 05/08/2006.
The Dept. of Biotechnology and Botany organised a study tour to Godrej site, Vikhroli on 07/07/2006 and
10/07/2006.
Guidance lectures in various subjects for T.Y B. Sc./B.A./B.Com students were conducted to help them
excel in their University Examinations.

4. Inter-disciplinary programmes started

5. Examination reforms implemented
Examinations are conducted on behalf of the University of Mumbai as per the rules and regulations of the
University.
In addition to the regular examinations like term exam and ATKT exam, the college conducts a preliminary
examination for the final year students, along the lines of the university examination pattern, about one month
before University examination. The students are then given feedback and general guidelines to better their
performance.
Some departments conduct periodic tests in their respective subjects for each class by way of open book
test, test series, objective test etc. to improve the general performance.
Question bank for Viva-voce of practical examination was provided to the students.
Almost in all the subjects in the Science stream and for the subjects of Communication Skills in English and
Business Communication, class room seminars were conducted.
Examination time-table for first year and second year term end examinations was planned in such a
manner that the students can get one day preparation leave for each paper.
6. Candidates qualified: NET/SLET/GATE etc.
Mr. Navnitlal R. Valania passed Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR)-Agriculture Scientist
Recruitment Board (ASRB)-NET Examination for Lecture ship in Biochemistry (plant sciences) in March-2007.
7. Initiative towards faculty development programme
To keep the faculty update about developments in their subject, the college always encourages the staff to

Services like news paper clipping, curriculum support, inter library loan, audio-visual facilities and wall
paper magazine were introduced.
Library membership and reading room facilities are extended to ex-students and students of sister
institutions.
Job Watch and Career Watch Service: The articles, opportunities related to job and career are displayed
on the notice board.

23. Courses in which students’ assessment of teachers is introduced and the action taken on students’
feedback
Assessment of teachers performance is made in all courses. The shortcomings if any are reported to
the concern teacher. Principal and Head of Department provides necessary guidelines for
improvement in performance. The implementation of suggested improvement is reviewed by the
Principal in the informal meetings with the class representative and Head of the Department.
24. Unit cost of Education
Unit cost of education including salary = Rs.8836.88 per student.
Unit cost of education excluding salary = Rs.3819.73 per student.
25. Computerization of administration and the process of admissions and examination results, issue of
certificates.
No specific software is installed for performing these functions; however they are performed with the help
of computers.
26. Increase in the infrastructural facilities
Addition to the furniture and fixture Rs.166537/- and additional equipments worth Rs.331287/- are
purchased for laboratories.
27. Technology upgradation
Rs.110248 /- is spent on Computers and Printers with Licence Softwares.

28. Computer and internet access and training to teachers, non-teaching staff and students.
Almost all the teachers are computer savvy and either have their own desktop/laptop computers or if at all
they require any guidance, it is provided by the teachers of the Dept.of IT.
Prof. Mrs. Seema Rahul conducts computer and internet training for the non-teaching staff members. . Since
most of the administrative staff are in the age group between 35 and 40 years, they have been trained effective
in the use of computer.
The college offers graduate and post graduate programmes in Information Technology. Computer, as an
optional subject, is offered at S.Y.B.Com and T.Y.B.Com.
The students in the Science section are encouraged to present their in-house projects through power point
presentation. They are encouraged to use internet by prescribing addresses of websites for paper
presentations and seminars in the classroom.
The teachers provide their e-mail ids to the students so that an online academic interaction becomes
possible.
The library provides guidance for MS-CIT examination.
Internet facilities are provided in the computer laboratory, library, administrative office and in the U.G.C.
Resource center. Teaching and non-teaching staff can access the internet facilities at all said places however
access to internet facilities for students is allowed at computer laboratories and in library only.
29. Financial aid to students
Facility of paying fees in easy installments was provided to the needy students.
Book bank scheme has been made available to the underprivileged students.

All the students have been insured for accident under group insurance by United Assurance.
The Dept. of Information Technology selected some students to provide them with free advanced
computer training during vacation.
30. Activities and support from the Alumni Association
Alumni provided assistance as coach in the sports and NSS activities.
31. Activities and support from the Parent-Teacher Association
There is no formal Parent-Teacher Association, however, on the following occasions, teachers meet the
parents.
Felicitation of meritorious students along with their parents.
Unfair means enquiry committee meetings.
Meeting with the parents of defaulters.
Blood donation camp and other such social activities.
Meeting with the parents of the N.S.S. students.
In certain circumstances, parents are invited for discussion or counseling in order to find solutions to
the problems faced by individual students.
In the meeting teachers provide feedback to parents about the performance of the wards. Similarly, a parent
also provides very useful information about their wards, their family background…etc. which is very useful
in making teaching more student centric. Parents‟ supportive approach helps us to implement disciplinary
measures, attendance policies in positive manner. Their suggestions are useful while introducing a new
course and new subjects in the college.

32. Health services
Dr.Datta Samant Free Advisory Medical Advisory Centre offers preliminary medical assistance and
advice to the students, teachers as well as parents.

33. Performance in sports activities
Annual Sports of the college were organized on 4th, 5th, & 6th Jan 2007.
Inter Collegiate Hand Ball Tournaments were organized in association with the University of Mumbai.
Mr.Adhish Walavalkar,T.Y.B.Sc. (Physics),won gold medal in Karate.
Mrs. Meenakshi Dahiliwal F.Y.Bsc.(Biotech.), won gold medal in Taekwando.
34. Incentives to outstanding sportspersons
T.A., D.A. was paid as per the University rules to the selected candidates.
Cash prizes, trophies, medals, track suits, appreciation certificates, etc. were given to the deserving students.

36. Activities of the Guidance and Counselling unit.
Guidance lectures are organized for the final year students wherein they are guided on the examination
paper pattern, time and stress management, marking system, presentation of answers etc., at the time of
University Examination.
Personal counselling is offered to the students regarding their personal, psychological as well as academic
problems by the members of the Women Development Cell and the Counselling Cell.
The WDC organizes sessions on topics like Health and Hygiene, Career Opportunities for Women,
social Security of the Women etc. Through the workshop on gender sensitization, the cell tries to create
awareness among the students about gender equality so the girl students shouldn‟t have to face any
indecent happenings in the college premise.
Women Development Cell arranged a lecture on “Women‟s Health” by Dr. Sharad Gotge on 25th November
2006.
37. Placement services provided to students
Access systems, a division of Sanneet Computers Pvt. Ltd, awarded IT project and several lT related job
opportunities in DATA ENTRY OPERATORS, FOXPRO TRAINEES and SQL, ORACLE
PROFESSIONALS to our BSc (IT) students.
Ms. Snehal Govekar had undergone internship in Cadbury India Ltd. From 9th April to 21st April 2007.
BSc (Biotechnology) students were awarded project work on EXTRACTION OF ENZYMES FROM
SINGLE CELL USING PLANT TISSUE CULTURE TECHNIQUES by Research Support International
Limited (RSIL)

38. Development programmes for non-teaching staff
Prof. Mrs. Seema Rahul faculty from the Dept. of Information Technology organizes computer training
programmes for non teaching staff wherein they are guided on how to use computer, internet for the purpose
of making their teaching process effective through Computer Aided Learning.
Prof.Mrs.Shubhada Deshpande, a faculty from the Dept of English conducted classes training programmes
for non teaching staff wherein they are guided about the necessary skills for writing and speaking correct
and good English.
39. Healthy practices of the institution
To develop patriotism among the students following activities are conducted.
We celebrate the occasions like the Independence Day and Republic Day and the attendance is made
compulsory on that day.
The national song is played before the first lecture.
The birth and death anniversaries of the national leaders are celebrated in the college.
Eminent personalities from the literary field are invited to deliver lectures.
A periodic wall paper magazine is published by the students under the guidance of the teachers.
A doctor and first aid facility is made available in the form of Dr. Datta Samant Free Medical Advisory
Center.
Quantitative record of the daily attendance of the students of the entire college with the full details of boys
and girls absent, present is maintained. Defaulters‟ record is maintained for every month and it is reported to
the parents twice in the year.

Mr. Baban Mamlekar (Peon) completed MSCIT course in the month of January, 2007.
Mrs. Sunita Vinod Dhasal (Superintendent), Mr. Damodar Mangesh Tivarekar, (Head Clerk) and Mrs. M.
M. Prabhu (Senior Clerk) of the college participated in the Regional Seminar on Professional Development
of Academic Support Staff organized by K.P.B.Hinduja College of Commerce on 13th January 2007.
Mr. Baban Mamlekar (peon) secured a special prize for Vithal Namacha Gajar, his singing performance
from Sanskar Bharti, Thane on 2nd July 2006.
Mr. Baban Mamlekar (peon) stood first in Bhartiya Sanskriti Pariksha held at Vivekananda Kendra,
Kanyakumari on 27th August 2006.
Mr. Baban Mamlekar (peon) was awarded first prize in Poster competition at 4th Inter-collegiate cultural and
sports events conducted by Nagindas Khandwala College of Commerce, Arts and Management Studies and
Shantaben Nagindas Khandwala College of Science during December, 2006.
The college conducted a farewell program for final year students on 24th Feb, 2007.
As a part of the TV Serial “Aamchi Kuthehi Shakha Naahi” (आमची कुठेही ऴाखा नाही), the team of Sahyadri
TV Channel visited the college campus and the students participated in the programme.
To induct the staff about the process and preparation for the reaccreditation by NAAC, one day in-house
seminar was organized by Internal Quality Assurance Cell. On 22nd August 2006 Dr. S.V.Surnis,
Principal,Chetna College of Commerce and Economics , Bandra , guided the staff about the preparation for
NAAC reaccreditation. All the members of the governing body attended the seminar.
To induct the staff about the preparation for peer team visit at the time of reaccreditation by NAAC, one
day in-house seminar was organized by Internal Quality Assurance Cell on 09th January, 2007. Dr. Vijay

Community services
1) Tree Plantation: On 13th August, 2006, the NSS unit of the college had undertaken the programme of tree
plantation in the college campus. (40 volunteers)
2) Cleanliness Drive: The program of cleanliness drive in the college was undertaken from 28th August 2006 to
30th August 2006. On 28th August 2006, the unit presented a street play on „Need and Importance of Keeping
College Campus Clean‟ to create awareness among the college Students. (178 volunteers)

3) Bus Queue: This project was undertaken by the unit on Kannamwar Nagar bus stops. On 22nd September 2006
the students helped to maintain queue at the bus stops and maintained the discipline of the crowd. (185
volunteers)
4) Hiroshima Peace Rally: Every year, the University of Mumbai organizes a Peace Rally from Azad maidan to
Hutatma Chowk on 5th August 2006. This year also our NSS unit was invited by the University to participate in
this rally. Over 174 NSS volunteers actively participated in this rally.
5) Food and Drug Adulteration: In collaboration with FDA, Maharashtra state, a programme was organized by
the unit on 15th January 2007. In this program, a live demonstration of methods adopted for adulteration of food
and drugs were shown by the students. (170 volunteers)
6) Lecture Session on Women Development: on 10th December 2006, a lecture session on “Women
Development” was organized by the NSS Unit. For this lecture Dr. George Rodrigues was invited. (60 girl
volunteers).
7) Ganesh Immersion Traffic control Duty: The unit carried out the program for 3 days. During these days our
students with the help of the police do the traffic controlling. (175 volunteers).

ANNEXURE-I
Health services.
1) Vyasan Mukti: Vyasan Mukti programme was arranged on 10th December 2006.. It was to create awareness
about the ill effects of consumption of tobacco, gutka chewing, smoking etc. (130 boys volunteers)
2) Blood Donation Drive: On regular basis, this year also the unit organized blood donation drive on the 10th
death anniversary of late Dr. Datta Samant, i.e., 16th January .This year, 257 units of blood were successfully
collected by the unit.
3) Pulse Polio immunization: This is an area wise project carried out for the whole year, i.e., for six days in
the year whenever there is the drive of the municipal cooperation. The dates for the conduction of this project
were, 08th, 10th September 2006, 6th and 7th January 2007, 10th and 11th February 2007. (179 volunteers)
4) Hepatitis –B Vaccination Camp: on 18th September 2006, 2nd November 2006 and 18th December 2006, the
NSS unit had organized Hepatitis-B mass vaccination camps in Kannamwar Nagar and Tagore Nagar.
Around 1500 members had taken the benefit of this vaccination. (165 volunteers).
5) AIDS awareness week: This programme was undertaken by the unit to bring about AIDS awareness among
surrounding local mass. It was organized from 07th December 2006 to 13
thDecember 2006. In this
programme lecture series, essay completion on AIDS, poster competition, rally in the surrounding area, street
play in the area and exhibition were organized. (189 volunteers)
