HVII tried to get support at home and abroad (Treaty del Campo bought off Spain; Parliament granted £100,000 and financed a small force)
French received the pretender Warbeck and poured their troops into Brittany
HVII opened up negotiations with France, whilst secretly allowing troops to cross into Brittany
Treaty of Etaples (1492): HVII left France in return for 745,000 crowns (50,000 per year) and French agreed not to support HVII’s enemies
The small force crossed the channel in 1489
HVII led a larger force of 12,000 troops, gambling that France didn’t want a long conflict
France absorbed Brittany 1488-1492
