➊ STEP ONE: CUTTING

1A. BATTING: Following chart on back cover, cut Batting and Stabilizer . Fuse Stabilizer to one side of Batting . Stabilizer reduces stretching and keeps lint out of machine .

1B. LINING, VINYL AND PAPER: Cut Lining and Vinyl according to chart . (Paper will keep Vinyl from sticking to machine .)

➋ STEP TWO: SCRAPPY PIECING

If using whole cloth, place batting on wrong side of fabric. Trim to size. Skip to Step 2J.

2A: PREPARE SCRAPS: Sort and press Scraps .

2B: CUT CENTER PIECE: From Scraps, select focus fabric for center of design . Size of center shape should be approximately:

The Petite . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3½” x 3½” The Purse . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 5½” x 7” The Weekender . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 6½” x 8” The Traveler . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 7½” x 9” Cut center piece randomly with three to

six sides as shown in 2D-E . Piece will cover around bottom of bag and up each side .

2C: PREPARE REMAINING SCRAPS: Cut Scraps in varying strip widths . They can be adjusted and changed as they are stitched onto Batting .

2D: MARK BATTING: With light Fabric Marker, draw lengthwise and crosswise lines at centers of Batting as shown . (Crosswise line will be bottom of Bag .)

2E: PLACE SHAPE: Spray wrong side of center piece with KK2000 Temporary Adhesive . Place shape wrong side down in center of Batting .

2F. ADD SCRAP: Put ¼” foot on machine . Set for 2 .0 straight stitch . With right sides together, stitch a piece of coordinating fabric on one

side of shape using ¼” seam allowance . Stitching should only cover previous piece .

2G. TRIM SHAPE: Press open . Trim new piece, extending line from previous piece as shown .

2H: CONTINUE ADDING SHAPES: Work around original shape clockwise, pressing and trimming as you go . Create new angles by trimming previously laid pieces as shown .

Helpful

Hint for 1B:

Cut Lining first to

use as pattern for

Vinyl & paper .

3

2I: OPTIONAL QUILTING: Stitch along seam lines with decorative threads, fancy machine stitches and/or free motion work, if desired .

2J: PREPARE FINISHED QUILT BLOCK: Press Block . Square piece to Lining size listed in chart on back of pattern . On corners of Quilt Block, trim away a strip of Batting 3⁄8” from short side and 1” from long side . Do not cut Quilt Block!

➌ STEP THREE: ZIPPER

3A: PREPARE LINING: Place vinyl on right side of Lining . Stitch 1” from raw ends on both short edges .

3B: JOIN LAYERS: Place Block right side down . Spray wrong side of Lining with KK2000 Temporary Adhesive . Place Lining/Vinyl assembly wrong sides together with Block . Place paper or Fabri-Solvy on top of Vinyl . Set machine for 4 .5 straight basting stitch . Baste around all edges about 1⁄8” from edge . A walking foot is very helpful if available .

➍ STEP FOUR: MITER CORNERS

4A: MITER CORNERS: Fold Bag with side seam on angle as shown . Make sure side seam is in center of “V” formed by folding . Using template below, lay corner on template . Mark stitching line with permanent pen . Sew across stitching line as shown .

4B: TURN BAG: Turn bag right side out . Push mitered corners out . Create Zipper Placket by folding top edges over 1” to inside of Bag . Following manufacturer’s instructions, use Liquid Stitch on back side of Zipper seam . Finger press to hold Placket in place . Allow to dry for 30 minutes . Sew a few stitches (in the ditch) in seam area on each end of Zipper to tack Placket in place . Put a pretty ribbon or charm on Zipper slide to finish .

Enjoy your creation!

3C. INSERT ZIPPER: Center Zipper on right side of Bag, right side down on short raw edge . Fold ends of Zipper tape to wrong side of Zipper at each end as shown . Zipper will be approximately ¾” from each edge . Place zipper foot on machine . Open Zipper . Move needle position so that stitching will be approximately 1⁄8” from Zipper teeth . Select

straight stitch . Sew Zipper in place . Halfway across Zipper, needle down . Close Zipper . Set

machine for zig-zag stitch and change length to 1 .0 . Zig-zag over right edge of Zipper .

3D: FINISH ZIPPER: Fold Bag with right sides together . Fold Zipper out so that right side of Zipper is centered on right side of Bag as shown . Follow 3B to finish Zipper insertion .

3E: SIDE SEAMS: Open Zipper . With Bag right sides together, line up side seams . Sew side seams with ¼” seam and zig-zag stitch as in Step 3B, or finish with overcast stitch only .
