It is, as always, hard to be-lieve that the summer has flown by and we are already at the start of a new Section year—while parents every-where are breathing sighs of relief that the children are back in school, traffic engi-neers everywhere are bearing up under the annual on-slaught of school-related traf-fic complaints that inevitably come up in the first few
weeks of the new school year. For those of us who fall into both categories, conflicting emotions at their finest!
With the advent of the new Section year and my tenure as President of the Section, I would like to welcome our new Secretary-Treasurer, Ryan Germeroth, who is just starting to really understand what he has gotten himself into as he settles into his new and critical role—he is a valuable addition to our current officer team.
We have also had several changes on our Executive Committee—Melissa Rosas has decided to step down from the Scholarship and Career Guidance Committee and her role will be filled by Alex Larson. Many thanks to Melissa for her diligence and years of service, and we look forward to working with Alex moving forward. Ad-ditionally, Bill Hange has decided to step down from his Awards Committee role but our previous Past President John La Sala has stepped up to the plate to take a swing at those duties. Thanks as always to Bill for his com-mitment to the Section—we’ll miss the jokes at the EC meetings! Thanks also to John for his continuing dedi-cation to the Section in this new role.
Additionally, Steve Pouliot has stepped down as Legisla-tive Committee chair, leaving us in need of someone for that position. Thanks to Steve for his efforts over the past year in that role—if anyone would be interested in serving the Section in that capacity, please contact one of the officers. Mike Bowline has also handed over the University of Colorado at Denver Student Chapter Liai-son duties to Lisa Truong. Thanks to Mike for his ef-forts and coordination in that role and we look forward to Lisa’s continuing to carry the torch for UCD.
Finally, I would like to thank Aaron Heumann for his ex-tensive efforts as President over the past year—so far, all signs point to Aaron continuing to be as active as Past President as he was as President. I am personally glad to see that being the case and looking forward to continuing to work with Aaron this year as well as with Freddy He moving into his new role as Vice President. I’m sure that we will have another great set of lunch-eons this year, starting with our first Section luncheon of the year on Friday, September 26. I hope to see many of you there!
At the Executive Committee meeting in August, the com-mittee members voted to continue offering reduced rates for our membership in attending our regular lunch-eons this year: members and local affiliates will only be charged $25; students and retirees will continue to be charged the reduced rate of $5; and nonmember at-tendees will be charged $35.

Lifetime Achievement Award
It’s that time of the year again when the Awards Com-mittee looks forward to selecting this year’s recipient for the Lifetime Achievement Award. The Awards Commit-tee strongly requests that each member consider sub-mitting a confidential nomination for this year’s consider-ation.
The ITE Colorado/Wyoming Section Lifetime Achieve-ment Award is the highest award the section can give a member. It recognizes a member who, for an extended period of time, has contributed in an outstanding man-ner to the advancement of the transportation engineer-ing profession, the Institute of Transportation Engineers, and the Colorado/Wyoming Section. Established in 1989, past recipients of this award are Jack Bruce, Al Pepper, Dan Cronin, Gene Wilson, Dave Hattan, Jim Hauck, Dan Centa, John Bemelen, Bob Kochevar, Dick Bauman, Mark Schaefer, Ron Hensen, Pat Noyes, Alex Ariniello, Allen Albers, Larry Corcoran, Bill Hange, Fred Lantz, Gene Putman, and Jim Richey.
Please consider honoring one of your deserving col-leagues.
Minimum requirements are:
● Member grade or higher in ITE and a member in good standing of the Colorado/Wyoming Section.
● Active in the field of transportation engineering for ten years or more.
● Significant continuous contributions to the transpor-tation engineering profession for at least five years.

2018 ITE WESTERN DISTRICT MEETING BRECKENRIDGE, COLORADO
It is official! The Colorado/Wyoming Section will be host-ing the 2018 ITE Western District Annual Meeting in Breckenridge, Colorado!
There was a lot of excitement at the joint Western/Mid Western meeting in Rapid City when it was announced that the meeting will be in Breckenridge. I know it will be a great meeting and we will have a huge turnout.
Thank you to all the Local Arrangements Committee (LAC) volunteers that helped with the proposal and presentation effort.

The Colorado Transportation Department is actively seeking a talented, proven professional to serve as the Denver
Group Leader. The successful candidate will manage the Roadway, Bridge, Construction Management, and Survey

jor transportation projects in Colorado. The primary focus will be on highway and multi-modal design projects and may

This individual will serve on current and planned project opportunities, and will have an important role in expanding URS'

Firm Bio Apex Design is a transportation engineering consulting firm specializing in Traffic Engineering and Intelli-
gent Transportation Systems (ITS). We work with government agencies to improve traffic flow and safety

Traffic and ITS Design Engineer This opening is for a Design Engineer who will work under the direction of senior engineers to prepare de-sign plan packages for Traffic Engineering and ITS projects. This position will also assist in various engi-neering capacities in the wide variety of exciting transportation projects that Apex Design works on.
ITS Construction Engineer Apex is seeking a Construction Engineer for ITS construction projects across the Colorado Front Range. This position will work in a team environment to provide management and inspection for ITS and traffic components of major roadway construction projects.
Qualifications ● BS Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited school, focus in transportation preferred
● Colorado EIT or PE with up to four years of experience
● Proficiency in MicroStation preferred for Design Engineer position

The individual should have interest and education or project expe-rience in most of the following areas: roadway/civil design, traffic signal design and timing, traffic oper-ations, transit system planning, traffic impact analysis, traffic modeling, bicycle & pedestrian analysis, statistical analysis, travel demand modeling, traffic engineering, and corridor and area-wide planning.

Basic Qualifications:
● Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, transportation, or other related field
● PE license
● 10 to 15 years of experience in traffic engineering with at least five (5) in the public sector, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Junior Traffic Engineer DEA’s Denver, CO office is hiring for a Junior Level Traffic Engineer to work in our Transportation Business Unit as part of our Roads and Highways team. As a junior level traffic engineer you will work in the areas of traffic control/detour plan design, traffic signal design, intersection design, signing/striping plan preparation, and some transportation analysis. Your responsibilities will be diverse and will include but not be limited to the following:
● Works with project teams on all aspects of projects, including project set-up, drafting, design, quality re-view and quality assurance, project coordination/organization, etc.
● Prepares and designs improvement plans for a wide range of traffic design tasks.
● Prepares and/or directs preparation and modification of construction documents, reports, specifications and designs for project
Basic Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering
● Engineer In Training (EIT) certification
● 0-3 years of professional traffic design experience or a strong interest in Transportation/Traffic design
