Valentine’s Day
On Wednesday, February 14, 2018, we will
celebrate Friendship Day. Students will
have an opportunity to exchange notes of
friendship or kindness, or Valentine cards
with their classmates at the end of the day.
*Remember that this is not one of our two
party days so we will not distribute cookies,
cupcakes or treats of any kind.
Since all cards/notes will be distributed at
the end of the day, take time to read and
enjoy them when your child arrives home.
*This is voluntary, so if you do not wish for
your child to participate in this exchange in
any manner, please notify your child’s
teacher by note or email.

More Math Lunch and Learn—New Topics, New Dates!
The way our children are learning math is very different than how we learned. Come spend a lunch with Ricky Mikelman, our Math/Science IC. In our culture, math has negative connotations. It’s ok to say, “I’m not good at math.” It’s important we develop a growth mindset so we don’t pass negative associations to our children If math makes you a little hesitant, it’s even more important that you come ready to work and play with math!
Thursday, Feb. 15-- Decoding Division –grades 3-5
Long division is a lot of steps to remember! Let’s see how to make long division make sense to our students. We’ll discuss the meaning of remainders and what to do with them. We’ll try partial quotient and even short division! We’ll also talk about your role in helping kids learn their facts.
Tuesday, Feb. 27-- Games to Build Number Sense—grades K-2
Let’s play and have fun with our numbers! This session will work with cards and dice to recognize, order, add and subtract numbers. We’ll discuss family activities that reinforce math understand-ing. You’ll leave with a handout with rules to all the games we play.
Tuesday, March 6-- Place Value as the Foundation to Understanding—grades 1-5
When our children have a firm foundation in place value, they’ll develop stronger number sense and math will make sense. It’s starts with understanding 10s and 1, and goes all the way to millions—and hundredths. We’ll be sure to include a game or two to help strengthen understanding.
All Lunch and Learns are held from noon-1:00 pm. LUNCH IS NOT PROVIDED. There will be
plenty of time for questions and answers, hints on helping children at home, and strategies to develop
a growth mindset in your children. I promise this won’t be scary.
Please RSVP on the google form by using this link so we are adequately prepared:
