VOCABULARY: Collage: An artwork in which the artist glues bits of cut or torn paper, photographs, fabric, or other materials to a flat surface. Song: A short poem or other set of words set to music or meant to be sung. Rap: a type of popular music of US black origin in which words are recited rapidly and rhythmically over a prerecorded, typically electronic instrumental backing. Emphasis: Importance given to certain objects or areas in an artwork. Color, texture, shape, space, placement, and size can be used to create dominance, contrast, or a focal point. Primary Colors: A color that cannot be mixed from other colors, but from which other colors are made. The primary colors are red, yellow, and blue. Secondary Colors: A color made by mixing two primary colors. The secondary colors are orange, violet, and green. Complementary Color: Colors that contrast with one another. Complementary colors are opposite one another on the color wheel. The complementary colors are blue/orange, purple/yellow, and red/green.
ACTIVITY INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Fill each box entirely with 10-15 drawings according to the labeled color.
2. Once each color is complete, create a rainbow color collage of one drawing from each color (red, orange, yellow, and blue, green, purple).
The challenge is to fill the entire box by connecting each drawing. Use only ONE drawing from each color and do not forget to color each image according to the color!
3. The second challenge is to create and write a catchy song/ rap that has to do with the rainbow
collage with each line referring to each of the six colors. Write the song/ rap on the lined paper.
For example: Barney’s The Rainbow Song goes like this: Oh I like red, it’s the color of an apple. Orange it’s the color of an orange. Yellow it’s a lemon and a wonderful sun, sun, sun. Green it’s the color of the trees and lots of things that grow. And then there's blue for the sky. And purple that’s a color that’s fun, fun, fun. And when you put those colors side by side, now what do you think we’ve done? We’ve made a rainbow!. And it’s a really beautiful one, one, one. Try to create a song/ rap that are 8 or more lines. *Fun Fact* This song helped me remember the order of the colors in the rainbow!
