Water Conservation Poster Contest

Lesson Guidance:The Water Conservation Poster Contest presents a great opportunity to focus both the

students’ and community’s attention on protecting our most precious natural resource: water.For the posters, we ask students to create an image that reflects ways they can or alreadyconserve water around their home. The goal is to get students to see there are reasonable

and efficient ways to save water in their everyday lives.

Submission Structure:All poster submissions will be sent to info@hicksvillewater.org.

We ask that the file name be first name, last name, grade level and school.(Example: John Smith-Grade 1-Dutch Lane Elementary School)

Program Structure:This poster contest is offered to Hicksville School District students in grades 1-5.Once the student completes their artwork, they are asked to take a photo

and submit it to the water district via email.

Prize Structure:There will be first, second and third place winners for each grade level.

Winners will receive a gift card.

Judges:The Hicksville Water District’s Board of Commissioners will judge the posters based onthe student’s creativity, originality, and ability to show the best conservation message.

Time Frame: National Water Week from the American Water Works Association will be occurring fromMay 3-9, 2020. If possible, we ask that materials be sent to students during this time with a

submission of posters by Friday, May 22, 2020.

Overview:Since the COVID-19 virus has forced schools into distance learning, the Hicksville

Water District (HWD) is introducing an easy, voluntary activity for elementary students.The District has launched a virtual Water Conservation Poster Contest, where the students’designs will be created at home and delivered digitally to the HWD.
