Celebrating food and drink in the Waveney ValleyFriday 3rd - Sunday 12th October 2014
www.visitwaveneyvalley.co.uk
Visit the food festival and escape to the tranquil, timeless natural beauty of the Waveney Valley for a short time or even a short break. The river provides much of the border between Norfolk and Suffolk, linking the Brecks to the Broads, with the wide skies providing the perfect backdrop to the winding river and rolling countryside.
There are stunning views across the rich farmland on either side of the tranquil River Waveney, with the peaceful picturesque landscape giving plenty of opportunities for you to get closer to nature, watching local wildlife, walking, cycling and canoeing.
After the success of last year’s festival this year’s programme starts on Friday 3rd October followed by 10 days of fantastic events taking place across the whole of the Waveney Valley. The festival fair will take place 11th and 12th October at Bungay Castle showcasing the best local produce and cookery demonstrations.
Welcome to the 3rd
Waveney Valley Food & Drink Festival
Lydia Smith . ChairWaveney Valley Tourism Forum
The valley and its idyllic villages and small picturesque market towns are easy to explore. There are plenty of opportunities to visit some of our local food producers, tea shops, restaurants and pubs, to indulge in tasting some of the wide range of locally produced food & drink available. Even better, take some home with you!
From award-winning ales and fabulous micro-breweries, to fresh pressed cider and apple juice, rare breed meats, artisan chocolates and talented local chefs – the Waveney Valley has it all.

With local producers, growers, restaurants, inns, cafes and food retailers firmly at its heart, the Festival aims to showcase the incredible food, drink and hospitality on offer in the Waveney Valley.
A few words from the Chairman
Building on the success of the last 2 years, we are confident that this year’s Festival will be even ‘bigger and better’ - far more ambitious with 10 days of events being held along the Valley, culminating in a 2-day fair at Bungay Castle which will bring together local producers, talented chefs and, of course, the food loving public. A great opportunity to see, smell, taste and celebrate our rich food culture.
Before that, you can enjoy among other things; Farmer’s Markets, Tastings, Demonstrations, a Farm Walk and visits to restaurants offering menus constructed using local seasonal produce.
The last few years have seen a shift in the way we view our food – food miles, traceability, provenance as well as the importance of shopping locally are now to the forefront for those of us who are passionate to ensure that what we eat and drink is healthy and delicious, whilst at the same time sustaining the economic wellbeing of this beautiful valley we are lucky enough to live in.
Many people have devoted time & effort to make this year’s Festival a success - to them, my grateful thanks.
Enjoy the Festival - eating, drinking, tasting and celebrating!

If you enjoy local food & drink, here are some great reasons why it helps you and the local economy of the Waveney Valley.
Supporting Businesses in the Waveney Valley
The Waveney Valley Food & Drink Festival is proud to be part of the county-wide Norfolk Food & Drink Festival which celebrates its
10th anniversary this year and takes place from the31st August to 12th October 2014. www.nfdf.co.uk
Money spent with local businesses stays in our community longer, offering employment for local people and buying other local skills and services.
Reducing food miles - the distance from origin to customer - means less fuel is being used and less greenhouse gas emissions to transport your food from its producer to you.
Local food doesn’t need the addition of chemicals to keep it fresh during transportation and because it gets to you quicker it’s still got far more of its nutrients and minerals, its taste and goodness.
Local food direct from the producer offers an education in waste with less packaging and local food doesn’t get turned away by distribution centres for being the wrong shape, size or colour.
Our beautiful countryside here in the Waveney Valley attracts many tourists every year – and it’s our farmers who keep it looking that way.
Buying local keeps us in touch with our Waveney Valley heritage and celebrates the changing of the seasons.
You know just what you’re buying and what’s in it – and at farmers’ markets you can talk to the producers themselves.
You will get to know the Waveney Valley so much better by visiting our farm shops and farmers’ markets, or going to Pick Your Own farms – they’re great days out.
There’s such a huge range of choice and variety – as you’ll discover during the Waveney Valley Food & Drink Festival.
You’ll feel you’re doing your bit to help – and you’ll be enjoying fantastic, tasty food into the bargain!
