Exploring the Stories in the May 4th Oral Histories

NVivo is a software package for analyzing qualitative data, such as text, audio, video, and images. Used by academics, nonprofits,

and businesses alike, it works by allowing researchers to organize, categorize, and link information.

The May 4 Oral Histories project collects and provides access to personal accounts of the May 4, 1970 shootings and their aftermath. To date, more than 130 people have contributed their memories of May 4th.

In this presentation, we show how the data analysis software NVivo can be used to explore and visualize the accounts of the days leading up to the May 4 shootings.
