INTRO:

Hello Everyone , it’s Mrs Rose from Ash class. As a lot of you know I love to bake and some of you have baked with me in school. We thought it would be fun to do a simple "recipe a week" that you can make and enjoy at home.It would be great if you could send us photos of your baking we would love to see them. This week we are going to make Easter biscuits.

Easter biscuits are a traditional British cuisine gift, given to guests on Easter Sunday. Originating from the West Country, they are made from flour, butter, egg yolk, baking powder and sugar.

Ingredients:

100 g of caster sugar.

100 g of butter or Margarine.

1. egg.

250 g of Plain flour.

1/2 teaspoon baking powder.

2 tablespoons milk.

75 g of currents.

Equipment:

Large mixing bowl.

Wooden spoon or electric whisk.

Sieve.

Rolling pin.

Biscuit cutter.

Baking tray.

Instructions:

Wash your hands before you begin.

Ask an adult to Pre Heat the oven for you. 200C / gas mark 6

Prepare your baking tray by rubbing a small amount of butter all over it this is called "greasing" and will stop your biscuits from sticking to the tray.

Weigh out all the ingredients and have them ready.

Put the butter & sugar in the mixing bowl and beat them together until fluffy.

Then add the egg and mix in well.

Next Sieve in the flour and baking powder.

Now gently mix the ingredients together (using a big spoon make a figure of 8 to stir in the flour(this is called "folding")

After that, you can add the currents and milk and mix.

Bring the mixture together into a ball, using your hands (this is the fun part!)

On a floured surface, the dough now needs to be rolled out to 5 mm thickness.

Cut the biscuits out and place on the baking tray.

Ask an adult to put the tray in the oven on the middle shelf and bake for 15 minutes until the biscuits are a golden-brown colour.

Once cooked sprinkle a little caster sugar over the biscuits while they are still warm and get an adult to help you transfer them to a cooling rack.

Leave to cool and enjoy. Look forward to seeing your photos.Happy Easter Everyone
