Week 8 Term 2 2019 The Wallsend South Public School community values and respects all people as individuals and believes in life-long
learning, the celebration of success and the achievement of academic and social potential for all, in a secure, stimulating
and challenging environment.
Principal’s Reflections New Principal Kelly Deakin Last Wednesday evening I was informed by our Director Educational Leadership, after an extensive merit selection process, that our new principal will be Ms Kelly Deakin from Hamilton North PS. Kelly is the current principal at Hamilton North PS and is very excited about coming to Southy. Over the next three weeks, I will arrange times for Kelly to come to Southy to meet, greet and conduct a full hand-over. Ms Deakin’s first official day as principal is Monday 22nd July (Day 1, Term 3). Awabakal Excursion Success Another highly successful and highly valued excursion. The principal at the Awabakal Environmental Education Centre has sent me this wonderful feedback ... “I just wanted to let you know that the students and teachers from your school were fantastic today at Awabakal EEC. The students were so knowledgeable and extremely well mannered. Your teaching staff were very supportive and very helpful.”

COMMUNITY NEWS
Orienteering is a navigation sport for all ages and levels of fitness, solo or as a family group. All you
need is a map showing where to go, and you decide which way and how fast. Newcastle
Orienteering Club and the City of Newcastle have installed a set of new permanent orienteering
courses at Brickworks Park, Iranda Grove at Wallsend. Club members will be at the course opening
on Saturday 22nd June 11am-2pm, and the courses will be available any time after that.
There are 3 ways you can get copies of the maps and courses:
- pick one up at Wallsend Library.
- download and print copies from newcastleorienteering.asn.au (NOC)
- get the MapRun smart-phone app from maprunners.weebly.com/ and follow the instructions on
the NOC or ONSW web-page.
Brickworks Park has barbecues, toilets and a small playground, as well as the bird hide next to the
pond in the old brickpit, so come and enjoy the facilities of one of your local parks.
