Attendees!

The RWCS 30th Anniversary

• Summer of 1977 the collectors met at the Goodhue County Historical Society.

• They showed their displays

• The Clay Giants by Lyndon Viel was available for author signature.

• Plans where made for the next year.

• Charter Members where created.

Charter Members

• These where the people who where at that first Convention and became member that day.

• Because of them, these 30 years later we are celebrating this anniversary.

So what else was happening in 1977?

• World Series: New York Yankees vx. LA Dodgers, Series 4-2

Great clay…Great people…

The “MEMBER”

• Charter Members• The members of the

workforce who created all the Red Wing products gives us our passion

• But most of all you are the reason the RWCS has been so successful all these years.

Great Clay!

• They Clay was the start of what was to come.

• It was formed by members of a workforce to create the best stoneware, most creative art pottery, and beautiful dinnerware around.

• It was a legacy that was continued.

Great People!

• The workers where the pottery: Lou McGrew, William Philleo, and many others

• The designers created: Kogan, Ziesel, Murphy….

• The collectors began to collect!

• More finds and history was researched by members.

• A museum was founded.

So how do we make this special?

A Tile, History

• They where not a part of Red Wing’s line, but created for adverting display:

True China Dinnerware line

• They where produced in 4 different glazes: Red, Blue, White and the Bob White speckled beige

The 30th Anniversary Tile

• Pre-Order with your Convention Registration

• Cost: $28• At Convention $35• You must come to

Convention to pick it up. No Mailing Option.

A Commissioned Print

• It will commemorate the beginning of the society the first Conventions.

• Created by Artist, Sandy Hokanson

• Unveiled before the Keynote address on the Thursday of Convention.

A Special Logo

• Will be used on all Convention Material

• On any new signage at Convention.

• In the Newsletter with Convention information

• Watch for a special gift to all members at Convention!

A Special Raffle

• This will be a fundraiser to offset the costs of the many projects for the 30th Anniversary.

• Items include are: the original print, possible Red Wing Gift Certificates, and much more.

• If you have an item that you would like to donate please contact Stacy Wegner in the Business Office.

Nostalgia

• Do you have an idea to bring back those fond Convention Memories?– Interested in working on a history display– Sharing your Convention memories through a

poster or letter

• The business office is working on the possibility of recreating some Convention memories too!

Republican Eagle Article Series

• The time line is set and the article is being written by Gary Tefft.

• We are looking for collectors to tell the production lines story, what is collectable, what it included and how to start.

• Only need at most 700 words and a picture.

• Contact: Stacy Wegner

Pottery Pond Park Project

• Addition on to the Park near the dump with interpretive signs and Pottery/Dump information.

• Ground breaking will occur this spring to be opened during the Convention.

• Preliminary planning is going on to have the Potter’s Picnic at this site.

• Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated.

Chapter Display Boards

• Each Chapter create a display using the report display boards used by student

• Include:– Chapter history– Example of newsletter– Next meeting and contact

info– Picture of your chapters

activities• Market Membership in

your Chapter at the Convention!

Collecting Colleagues!• We know that many members have great

collections and can’t display at Convention because of distance, size and number of pieces.

• Pictures Say 1,000 words so send them to the Business Office– They will be combined on poster board and hung in

the hall way at Convention– No personal information about the submitter will be

supplied

• Just a chance to show off your home display!• Digital Format preferred

30, 30 Gallon Crocks!

• Yes, we where looking for shock and awe at Convention!

• If you have a 30 gallon crock no matter what the condition we ask for you to bring it to Convention.

• Inventory of each piece will be taken along with condition, photo and labeled.
