Where are we going? Community-Informed Strategic Planning to Achieve Health Equity and Health
• There is an uneven opportunity landscape in Northern Virginia (Source: NVHF)
• Achieving a health equity and health for all vision will require alignment, clarity, and intentionality among the Local Public Health System members
• Community Strategic Planning Process includes examining• Examining and/or conducting
• Health and quality of life metrics• Social determinants of health metrics• Local public health system policies and interactions• Environmental scan
• Decision making as a system for the system
Biggest Lesson from the past 10 years?
•Use a systems approach vs. a disease or issue specific approach to public health change

Our Roles and Responsibilities – the 20,000 foot view
To achieve health equity in Arlington, we will need
1. Alignment: coordinated, collaborative action of all sectors of the community
2. Clarity: focusing effort on issues that matter to people with corresponding measurable outcomes
3. Intentionality: designing our communities, policies, and processes to specifically lead to improved outcomes in well-being, while avoiding unintended unhealthy outcomes
