Clinical Courses Have Clinical Simulation Experiences

National Council of State Boards of Nursing Annual Meeting Aug 2014

Hayden, J., et al, (2014) Up to 50% simulation can be effectively substituted for traditional clinical

experience in all core courses across the prelicensure nursing curriculum. 2.50% simulation can be effectively used in various program types, in different

geographic areas in urban and rural settings with good educational outcomes.

Purpose of Simulation at Holy Family University School Nursing Programs Teach basic skills Introduce new concepts – building on psychomotor skills Improve critical thinking Incorporate Quality and Safety Education in Nursing BSN Essentials and leading to NCLEX©RN success

Goals of Simulation at Holy Family University Nursing Programs

Embed simulation into the nursing curriculum

Each simulation experience builds on the proceeding one ---

simple to complex

200 - 300 - 400 - 600 courses focus on incremental roles nursing student at the bedside to leadership / nurse managers

Provide faculty with education needed to be successful in utilizing simulation as a teaching strategy*

Challenges with Inexperienced Faculty Members and Clinical Adjunct Members
