Travel Monitoring Analysis System (TMAS) version 2.0

• Schedule• Version 1.0 released August 2007

replaced Traffic Volume Trends• Version 1.5 released June 2009• Version 2.0 State beta tested April/May 2012• Version 2.0 planned release

September 2012 (TMAS 2.0 will replace VTRIS)

TMAS 2.0 QC Process Overview

• All data processed by site by month and

not by state by month• Station records will need to be up to date (July)• All QC checks are settable by site or by using the

national system values – only for your State• All data will be kept that follows the TMG format*• New – data deletion feature – only for your State• New – data export feature – open to all states

• Upload only thru TMAS 2.0 – no more FTP sites, emailed data, CD’s, or DVD’s

• Some station fields go from optional to required – dynamic station QC

• All Data open to all States – FHWA is promoting sharing of data, State-State

TMAS QC Process Guiding Principles

Collect data once – process correctly and use it many times!!

TMAS is used to sort data into those records that are suspect vs.

records that pass all QC checks

TMAS 2.0 Station Information• New Required Fields

• Year Established• # Lanes for Volume, Class and/or Weight• If a class or higher site – field 16

Classification System for Vehicle Classification• HPMS Sample Type (Y/N)• National Highway System (Y/N)• Primary Sensor• Latitude and Longitude

TMAS QC Checks for Volume

• Every DOW check (7 days required)• 24 hours of data check (24 hours required)• 7 consecutive zero’s check• Any zero check with boundary of 50 vehicles• Directional splits check (tightened)• MADT check (tightened)• Maximum number of vehicles per hour per lane check (new)

TMAS QC Checks for Classification (axle or length)

• Maximum % Class by Direction for any day

• Historical % Class vs. Input Class % check by day (same DOW)

Example: Historical 8 weeks % for passenger cars is 64% with a tolerance of 8% would give you a range of 56% to 72%. If 61% was the daily passenger car % for the incoming data then the site passed for PC’s.

TMAS QC Checks for Weight

• GVW vs sum of axle weights check• Any Axle weight range check• Any axle spacing range check• Sum of axle spacing’s by class range check• Minimum number of axles by class check• Steering Axle Weight Average (SAWA) check

• SAWA extreme min/max range check• Average Tandem Spacing (ATS) check

• ATS extreme min/max range check

Weight Records – special case• Vehicle with 13-24 axles – no QC• Vehicles with 25 or more axles purged• Dummy (no vehicle -1) records kept but left as null entries
