You may be asked to pay for textbooks, materials, and

supplies that you will need to succeed in your class

$20 for one book

$35 for book and workbook

$20 Citizenship book

Grades and Transfer Credit

You will not receive a grade for ESL courses you attend

ESL courses do not transfer to another school, but they

help you prepare and acquire skills to take courses such

as:

Citizenship

Adult Basic Education (ABE)

GED preparation courses and transition to a college or a

job.

WHO?

• Individuals who have had a permanent resident alien card for 5 years or more

• Or 3 years if married to a U.S. citizen.

WHAT?

• Citizenship class is designed to teach the content required to pass the Citizenship exam and Interview.

• You will also receive assistance from the Citizenship teacher to prepare for the N400 application for submission.

HOW?

• Take appraisal exam and pretest

• Enroll and begin attending classes

• Students who are absent more than two weeks may be removed from class

• ESL Intermediate Level required to attend class

Counseling

A counselor is available to help you select courses,

define educational goals, and find the SMMUSD services

you need

• If you need GED® preparation classes, call (310) 664-6222 ext. 76203 and schedule a FREE counseling appointment

• If you are ready to take the GED® test, schedule to take the GED® test through www.ged.com

•GED Test Schedule: Tuesday & Thursday, 1pm-5:30pm

•Students wishing to test through our center should schedule one or two exams at a time

•GED test is offered in Spanish
