COURSE LEVELS
• Regular- Written assignments are shorter, have more check points; discussions are shorter, more
structured; daily review of assignments, more homework checks, most reading done in class
• No added GPA weight value
• Honors- Focus on high levels of thinking; require self-motivation and ability to complete outside reading;
little review; exhibit independent thinking, a strong work ethic; additional reading, writing and research
assignments. Level IV or V on EOG’s as guideline.
• .5 added GPA weight value
• Seminar- Expect more depth, creativity, breadth; regular writing assignments with high expectations;
emphasis on interpretation and analysis; provides less structure than a traditional honors class; most/all
reading is done at home. Level IV or V on EOG’s and AIG as guideline.
• .5 added GPA weight value
• Advanced Placement- college level writing expectations; high level analysis; college level text; academically gifted, self-disciplined and highly motivated; significantly increased reading outside of class time, writing and research assignments compared to the honors/seminar levels. Ready to be successful at college level.

CAREER CENTER
• Available to rising Juniors and Seniors (parent permission required)
• JUNIORS receive priority for CTE 2-year programs
• Cosmetology ($350; 600 hours/yr including nights & weekends; limited
spots)

• Standard travel time can be 25-30 minutes
• Standard number of courses when combining West and CC is “7”.

SELECTING COURSES
•Must choose 8 credits and at least 2 alternates both
ONLINE and on CARD
• Note: need even number of block and yearlong courses
• Ex. 2 block courses and 6 yearlong courses

IMPORTANT POINTS
• Balance is essential for your mental health!
• Just because every teacher may recommend an HN or AP
course for you doesn’t mean that you should do so in every
department area
• Always keep in mind your extra-curricular activities
commitments
• Athletics
• Job
• Hobbies
• Talk to teachers; ask about electives in areas of interest
•Early Graduation - not appropriate for
everyone…must submit and be approved
during registration process for following year
•Repeating Courses – you may choose to
retake a course you have failed in order to
replace the F with the newly earned grade
•Credit Recovery – an online option to
recover credit in a course you failed by
earning a Pass or Fail (can impact NCAA
athletic eligibility).

CURRENT STUDENT DUE DATES
• Registration card & forms– DUE to your math teacher by:
• February 4th A day math classes
• February 5th B day math classes
• Non-math students registration card & forms
• Due February 6th
• Turn in to Student Services
• Online registration must match your card choices
• Student/counselor will finalize at 1-on-1 conference and then student will no longer be able to edit

• ANY CHANGES OR REQUESTS WILL NEED TO COME TO US AFTER THIS DATE
FAQ’S
• What if my child wants to select a course that is not recommended? Parents may
“choice” student into a higher level.
• What if my child has a change of mind after meeting with their counselor? They
should meet with or email their counselor as soon as possible to request the change.
• What if I have questions about my child’s selections? You may email or call their
assigned counselor, but we will not be able to meet with parents until after the
registration period is over (March 4th).
• What if my child is not ready when it is their turn to register? Their counselor will have
to select courses for them.
