A magnet school is a school of choice. This school has a special focus of study, configuration of grades, or schedule. Magnet schools have the same expectation of high achievement for students that all other Joint School District schools have.

- Understand your child’s skills.

- Talk to your child about a magnet.

- Research whether a neighborhood school or a magnet is a better match for your child.Next Steps:Next Steps:

- Check the district’s web site (look under schools).

- Read the information for parents before proceeding to the application located on the district web site.

- If you are unable to access the website, then obtain the application form from school or magnet director.

- Fill out application for all family children whom you would like to attend.

- Send in application to designated place or person.

- Discuss a possible magnet placement in an I.E.P. meeting

- If this seems a viable possibility, apply using the district web site. All students must go through the lottery process.

- If your student is selected, meet with both schools in an I.E.P. meeting to discuss successful placement and programming.

- Lottery will take place in early spring.

- You will be informed of your child’s status.

- If offered placement, reply yes or no.
