STARFLEET, the World's Largest Fan-Run Trek Fan Organization, was founded in 1974, and provides its membership (3700+) with a common interest base:

appreciation of Star Trek: The Greatest Human Adventure. Hundreds of chapters in Regions worldwide unite members into local fandom as well as the International organization.
