Changing World

0We are now in a world where information is everywhere

0Memorization is no longer a useful skill.

0 In our society we need people who think critically and problem solve.

Changing Schools

0Our schools need to reflect this

0Too often we ask questions that require a simple Google search answer.

0We need our schools

to truly challenge our

students and prepare

them for the world they

are entering.

Connect with the World

0Everyone has so many resources at their disposal.

0 It’s important we teach our students how to use them efficiently.

Standardization0The standardization and ‘high stakes’ testing are

inefficient in preparing our students for the real world they are entering.

0 It’s not what you know but how you use it that matters in our current society.

0We need to develop a

system that caters to this

type of learning,

NOT Standardized tests.

There are 6 things every teacher can incorporate

into his or her classroom to help prepare their students for the technological world

they are entering.

Share Everything

0 Post a blog online about what you are doing in your classroom.

0 Post your curriculum online at Teacherspayteachers.com

0 Connect with the larger world around you.

The more feedback you receive, the better you an reflect and grow.

Discover Curriculum

0Do not deliver curriculum.

0Teachers and students can create much more meaningful curriculum if they are working together.

0By discovering curriculum, all students will be much more engaged in their learning.

Talk to Strangers

0Online you can connect with anyone!

0This means you can invite first hand resources right into the classroom.

0Do not be afraid to contact the experts.

Be a Master Learner

Teachers need to think of themselves as Life Long Learners.

0You do not and will not have all the answers. Be OK with that and be willing to:

0Learn- Teachers must be able to learn new ideas, no matter how many years they have been teaching.

0Unlearn- Teachers must be able to unlearn their old ideas, and perhaps even unlearn some of the new ideas that do not seem to be working with their current students.

0Relearn- Teachers must be willing to try again and learn in a new way.

Do Real Work for Real Audiences

0 Publish your students work.

0Make their work matter so they will want to do it & others will want to hear about.

0Give your students the power to make a difference.

Transfer the Power

0We must be willing to give students power and allow them to try and fail, or try and succeed.

0We need to allow our students to have freedom and choice inside the classroom.

Why do we want our children to go to School?

Most say to:

0 Develop a love of learning.

0 Solve new problems.

0 & become independent thinkers.

We must ask ourselves, does the current classroom fit these goals?

If not we must do everything in our power to make it so.
