Society & especially the Saint Maur
community have invested in IT systems
(time, equipment, MONEY, expertise) • To create an environment that uses
human intuition that• Solves problems (work safer, faster
and consistently)
Skills to master life are changing,
they are now:• web based inquiry • information analysis• media rich publishing • entrepreneurship and • collaboration (even Virtual Reality) These key abilities are required for thefuture.
Modern world inhabitants useand will depend more upon
• High speed communication connections
• Wireless• Broadband (Fiber Optic)
• Converged devices• The Internet
• The world of cyberspace is transforming the way we work and live
• Citizens are helping to define and shape a new digital age (60% contend that info found on www is more reliable than that found in print)
• The net gives awesome power to individuals especially the ability to be heard across the world
• Individuals will need to exercise greater responsibilities for their own actions and for the world they are creating
MySpace, YouTube, Wikipedia, Lulu, Flickr, Second Life
• Influencing the way the music, news, andmovie businesses are developing• Allow people to become overnight celebrities.• Contributors become instant
– encyclopedia editors, – writers, – musicians, – journalists and – photographers,
all wanting to show off their work to a responsive audience
But there are conflicts between :
• personal privacy and societies interest in openness
• security and freedom• community and commerce• government oversight and personal
autonomy • flourishing creativity and the
protection of intellectual property (Blogs, mashups)
Today's graduates(digital natives) spend
• Less than 5,000 hours of their lives reading• 10,000 hours playing video games• 20,000 hours watching TVOver 50% believe they will work inbusinesses they create themselves80% of jobs that will be available in 2018have not yet been createdBy the age of 35 grade 8 students will havehad been employed at least 18 different ways

• Receiving info quickly from multiple multi media sources
• Parallel processing and multitasking• Processing pictures, sounds, videos
before text• Random access to hyperlinked
multimedia info• Interact simultaneously with others
